Only one clip in my project plays the rest show a black screen HELP

dvandeburgt85 wrote on 5/25/2014, 9:10 PM

So basically I spent the last two hours editing a video and inserted a clip onto my video, now the only clip that will play is that one, and if I try to move or delete it non of the other ones play. I'm just completely outraged. Does anybody know how to fix this??

Hi,

Not without more detail, including the version of the product you're using.

But problems like this are often caused by project corruption. Presumably you've re-started the program and reloaded the project with no success? Try opening a new movie (if your product has that feature) and copy/pasting the original 'bad' movie into its fresh timeline, and playing that.

Another cause can be that the program has scrambled its internal information about a file. Sometimes simply deleting it and re-importing a fresh copy with a new name can fix it.

Hi

We need more information:-

    -  Which version of MEP are you using - include the version number under Help, About?

    -  What are the formats of the video files you are importing, which works and which does not?

   -   What are the project settings?

   -   What is your computer specification?

Come back with all this information and then we may be able to help you.

The version I am using is movie edit pro mx plus.

Not sure of the version number

Video formats are all avi off of the same camera

Project settings haven't been altered since install

And as far as my computer, I've edited countless videos on it with this program.

I have restarted the project with no success, if I try to copy and paste it in a new project it says there is no images on timeline. If I copy and paste the work ive done on the same project all the clips still show black. This all happend after  I inserted the problem clip over my edited clips during importing, now it acts like the problem clip is ontop of all the other videos.

I can try to rename said file and see what happens but that won't be untill tonight, so any other suggestions in the mean time would be awesome.

Thanks in advance

Hi

We still need the information from my questions 2,3 and 4.

Please be specific and provide the information requested.

The version number is available under Help, About Magix Movie Edit Pro MX . . . .

. . . . I've edited countless videos on it with this program . . . .

That may be so, however in this particular case is not helpful - something has gone wrong eg a Windows update or a new program has been installed and changed something for instance the codecs have changed, or there is a fault with the clip that is causing the issue - GSpot or MediaInfo may give information which is relevant after analysing the clip.

I will look into all of that when I get home but I didn't install any updates or programs between when it was working and wasnt. I literally dropped a clip and it stopped working. What is gspot  or mideainfo???

Hi

GSpot and MediaInfo are two free programs which can analyse video and audio files and give detailed information about them such as what codecs are used and, in the case of GSpot tell you whether the files are playable or have a fault in them eg internal file length does not match specified file length in the file header information

Ok 2 I am using Avi files always have and always worked

3 I went to help and the only option I see that is close to what you mentioned is more about magix and that basically is links to sales web sites

4 I have a intel pentium dual 1.86ghz prossesor with 3062mb of ram.

And why do I have to pay for magix customer scervice??? like this is the thanks I get for paying money for this program instead of bootlegging it like the rest of the world

I'm at my wits end. I can't belive that nobody anywhere in the world has every brought up this problem before

I don't see how this will help, my videos have always edited and played fine from this camera and I even used a part of this specific clip earlier in the video. Like if I start a new project I can use that clip and edit it and everything fine. Somthing in my origional project has malfunctioned.

Hi

. . . . Like if I start a new project I can use that clip and edit it and everything fine. Somthing in my origional project has malfunctioned. . . . .

That is an essential piece of information - the project is corrupt.

The best option is to remove all the temporary files created from the corrupt project, ie the .H0 and .HDP files, start a new project from the beginning and import the clips again.

Trying to copy from the bad project to a new one may not work, in which case time has been wasted and the frustration level raised another notch or two.

Where would I find these .h0 .hdp files??

johnebaker wrote on 5/26/2014, 4:20 PM

Hi

They should be in the same folder as the video files.

You can safely delete the .H0 and .HDP files as they will be recreated again when you import into a new project.

Note:- in Windows Explorer, if you have 'known file extension' set to hidden then you will not see the file extensions - you must be able to see the extensions because the first part of the temporary files name is the same as the video files.
