I uninstall the MEP and reinstall it, When I start the program , the update message keep coming but i ignored it and keep working on my project with no problem. However this morning I updated the programme and the problem is back it keep freezing. Is there a patch to solve this problem? I have search the website I cant find any?

Hi

We need more information:

  1. Computer specification and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full - I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

  2. Windows version

  3. Are the graphics card drivers up to date?

  4. A screen shot of the Program settings, Device options tab.

  5. The amount of free space on the hard drive(s) you have.

Hi.

Thank you.

MEP 2022 (and a few previous versions) can not make use of your nvidia GTX 750 graphics card.

You need to set the Import / Processing / Export settings to either CPU or Microsoft WARP.

CPU and Microsoft WARP which one is better for MEP for exporting? My last export of 3 hours video to HD file took 12 hours to process successfully. Please advice...

CubeAce wrote on 11/29/2021, 9:51 AM

@choplife

Hi, Yes it is going to be slow as you have no access to hardware encoding. Which is better may depend on the speed and amount of ram you have as well as the age of the processor of which the Intel® HD Graphics 4600 GPU is also no longer able to be pressed into service.

As you have 16GB of ram, try starting off using Microsoft WARP which seems to need more ram than using the CPU.

Your main computer parts internally could be as old as eight years and as such are now on the low end of the computer power spectrum.

Really, if it were me I would be using older programs not designed to run on newer hardware. Each release is made to keep up with new hardware capabilities of the core component parts such as graphics cards and multi threaded CPUs.

There will also come a point where even old programs will not run with newer graphics drivers so it's a bit chicken and egg I'm afraid.

Thank you so much Ray. Yeah the computer is old it's like 8 years old as you have guessed. I will do as you recommend. One more thing, if I need to upgrade this computer what specifications would you recommend I get that will work effortlessly with MEP both in rendering and exporting. You are a life saver brother many thanks 🙏🙏🙏🙏

choplife wrote on 11/29/2021, 10:50 AM

I have just changed the Device options to CPU and I try to export or save a 3 hours video to MPEG-4 file and showing 16 hours to convert the file and That is too much. If I Change and upgrade my graphic card to a newer one will it help to speed up the rendering process? The WARP options did not even shows how long it will take to convert to MPEG-4 file instead it shows hardware acceleration has been deactivated. I attach a photo please help I am going crazy..

CubeAce wrote on 11/29/2021, 11:11 AM

@choplife

That's the sort of export times I was getting with my old system running MEP 2018 with CPU use only.

I suggest looking at the moderators or my signatures (In blue at the base of each reply) for clues as to what we are using although I would suggest a stronger video card than mine if you ever contemplate rendering 4K or higher resolutions. The specs page is a bit misleading on the Magix website as it only states what MEP will run on, not what it will run on well. Aim well above the minimum specs.

Check your motherboard specifications before thinking about upgrading your nvidia card. Even then without an Intel GPU to support it it may still suffer a bit. Upgrades are really personal and at present because of chip shortages prices are inflated beyond reasonable. I would also go back to your last version If possible for now if I were you.

Upgrading will not be cheap either way.

Hi

. . . . i7-4790K . . . .  If I Change and upgrade my graphic card to a newer one will it help to speed up the rendering process? . . . .

With this processor/age of the system, the motherboard is unlikely to support a modern graphics card.

What is the version number of the Intel drivers installed?

If the driver version is 15.40.44.5107, then any hardware acceleration you had has been disabled - see this Intel support article and re-install the driver linked to at the bottom of the article.

Then try setting the three device options to the HD4600.

@choplife @emmrecs @johnebaker

Hi.

I have tried to look up specific specs for this laptop and found there are several variables between builds.

It could have an i7-8700K which would be good but ask the seller if both the Intel GPU and nvidia GPU can be set to be active as it is not always possible.

I have never seen a laptop use a desktop processor before but apparently it is what they do.

I personally think the spec itself if all working as we would expect could be good but heavy on battery power for a laptop. It may also get noisy due to the heat from the CPU depending on their cooling solution.

Many thanks for your comments. I thought as much using Laptop for editing is not my thing. I will continue to search for used gaming PC with newer components and that will be suitable for video editing. Meanwhile I am still using my Old PC on MEP 2022 without the latest update. If I update the MEP 2022 it freezes my video while editing. I appreciate your help greatly.

@choplife

One word of warning, few gaming laptops work well with MEP or VPX as most gaming laptops rely on just the nvidia card whereas you need both an active Intel inboard GPU and a decent nvidia card for best performance or a high end Ryzen processor (more cores the better) with a very good nvidia card.

@johnebaker

John EBs laptop is one of the few that can cope as it is set up correctly from the manufacturer.

CubeAce wrote on 11/30/2021, 7:38 AM

@choplife

Hi.

You have to look up the model of Intel processor listed in the computers build spec sheet at the Intel ark website where it will tell you whether it has an inboard chip or not and what version. If you only run one monitor you may need to get a headless ghost for the graphics input you are not using so the bios can detect it and enable it.

Here is my setup as seen within Windows.

As you can see I use two monitors rather than a headless ghost.

Hi

From the specs, on the plus side, the Quadro P2000 graphics card does support NVENC for hardware acceleration - this is what makes the PC faster for video editing and is required if you want a good experience.

However, on the negative side, the Intel Xeon is not the ideal processor for video editing,nor does it support hyperthreading so Windows only sees 4 processor cores. The Xeon range of Intel processors are designed for used in servers and workstations, this PC is the latter and is designed, for CAD drawing, imaging and scientific work, ie 'number crunching'.

You need to be looking for an Intel based PC with an i5 or i7 processor with integrated UHD 630 or iris XE graphics plus a Geforce GTX 1060, or AMD Radeon 480, or preferably better graphics card, to give some future proofing.

Good morning everyone. I just got a new desktop computer with the following specifications. I wanted to know if I still need a graphic card to help me render a 3 hours video faster. Please I need your response 🙏🙏🙏

Hi.

Yes an nvidia card as John suggested or preferably higher and perhaps a new C: drive if that spec is correct as well as additional drives for storage.

However, I note video editing is not included in the 'suitable for' section and there is no mention of motherboard capabilities or expansion availability so may still not be a good choice. Hopefully it is as it states Aurora which is normally associated with Asus tech.

Ray.
