Photo Manager Deluxe does not visualize greek fonts correctly

D.L. wrote on 1/16/2018, 7:19 AM

I just installed Photo Manager Deluxe 17 on greek Windows 10 Pro and realized that the program's file manager does not read greek file/folder names properly, showing unintelligible gibberish instead.

I've read vitalikmp's post and his solution regarding cyrillic fonts, but 1. he is apparently more tech-savvy than I am (didn't even know what an .nls file was till I read his comment) and 2. I am very uncomfortable doing changes in the System32 folder, especially when dealing with things I hardly understand.

So... is there some other way to fix this?

Hi

This may actually be a Windows 10 region issue - check the Language settings through the Control Panel as follows - where I have used the standard English names, in bold, you may have to type the Greek equivalent:

Press the Windows key then type Control, a list will appear, select Control Panel from the list.

Click on Clock, Language, and Region.

Click Region, then go to Administrative tab.

Make sure that Greek (Greek) is displayed under Current language for non-Unicode programs. If not change it to Greek (Greek).

If it ask to reboot your PC, do so.

Hi, and thanks a lot for the swift response. As you predicted, language for non-Unicode programs was set to English, not Greek. I changed that, rebooted (twice, just to check) but unfortunately the program still does not visualize greek text properly. Any further thoughts would be welcome.

Hi

. . . . rebooted (twice, just to check) . . . .

Was this a shutdown and power up, or a proper restart ie Windows button, Power button, Restart ?

It must be the latter as this makes Windows reload everything.

I did both. A few more times now. Also made sure that the language change was still in effect. The problem persists.

Hi

Have you installed any new fonts?

If so it may be possible that these have caused the issue.

You can try resetting the Windows default fonts - note - this will remove any new fonts installed:

  • Open the Control Panel
  • Select Appearance and Personalization, Fonts, Font settings.
  • Click Restore default font settings.

Alternatively I would suggest you raise a support ticket here.

Well, that didn't work either.

Thank you for the help anyway, I really appreciate the effort. Now let's see if tech support comes up with a solution.

Hi

Please come back with the solution if you get this issue solved, we have had similar language issues in other programs before although AFAICR not with the File Manager display.

Thanks

Quoting from Magix support team's response :

"...due to the lack of full Unicode support, Photo Manager doesn't support many non-Latin alphabets and scripts in the built-in file browser. At this point in time, it also doesn't look like there's is going to be any further development intended for this product that would change this situation"

But they do offer full refund to those who acquired the program directly from Magix. Not my case, but there's that.

OK, not a big deal as long as the rest of the Vegas software bundle works properly. Just posting this in case someone's interested.
