Photostory 2026, "RC String 8875 not found"

David-Robinson5527 wrote on 2/5/2026, 4:02 AM

Since upgrading from the 2025 version the message "RC String 8875 not found" appears at the top of the Explorer Column. . The program appears to be working OK but this message is still very puzzling. I have tried to get help from Tech Support but the BOT gods are not playing ball. Reinstallation of the program and clearing all older version data from C drive programs have not helped.

As far as I can remember this is the first occasion on which this specific error message has ever been seen.

A quick Google search on it returns the only result as this thread (!) so no help there either. I've just checked my installation of PS 2026 and don't see it so that's no help to you either!

Since the program appears to be working OK I think you can safely ignore it but I wonder whether it is a problem being created by something in Windows itself? Which version of the OS do you run? Mine is Windows 11 25H2. Have you run any of the standard checks on your windows installation? (If you're not sure how to do this a quick Google search on "Windows Installation Checks" will give you a number of starting points, though the advice is always to proceed carefully. However, the basic check of sfc /scannow is one that can be safely run, in my experience.)

Hi Jeff My PC is running Windows 11 Home 25H2. I have run sfc/scannow and no problems were found. I don't believe it is a Windows problem as this issue only appeared the moment I installed and launched Photostory 2026. Certainly might be a conflict with Windows and Photostory but it seems strange no one else has noticed/reported it so far. Although many folks might not notice it especially as it can disappear for a while whilst using the program.

Hi

From your image it looks like you have this option missing, this may be due to an issue with one of the language translation files.

Try resetting the program back to its default settings, File, Settings, Default values, Reset program settings to default.

Do note this will reset any changes you made to the programs settings and folder paths.

Hi John I reset to defaults a day or so ago and it didn't make any difference at all. However I may have a clue to the problem. I will post an update to what I have found ASAP

Hi John I reset to defaults a day or so ago and it didn't make any difference at all. However I may have a clue to the problem. I will post an update to what I have found ASAP

UPDATE I notice the message "RC String 8875 not found" only appears when in the Classic view. If the message is showing left clicking on the message takes the view from Classic View to List View and the message disappears. The message is only seen in Classic View which unfortunately is the one I like best. It is obviously a glitch in Photostory and doesn't seem to affect the use of the program so I will live with it. Maybe the BOT gods will come up with a fix one day.

HI

. . . . only appears when in the Classic view . . . .

Good catch, and confirmed, this is a bug.

Classic view is one I do not normally go into.

I will send in a bug report.

I thought it was a bug and it is bugging me that there is no way of reporting or discussing it or any other issue😒

Hi

To report a bug use the Support option at the top of this page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select Send email then follow through the dialogs.

I have sent a report along with a link to this topic and an image of the issue.

You will get an AI Bot reply which will suggest one or more possible solutions, the one I had suggesting deleting .H0 and .HDP files. This did not resolve the issue and I replied to the email stating that the suggested solution did not resolve the issue.

Thanks for the advice however this only starts another email chat with a BOT and it will raise a new case number confusing the issue even more. I have had another reply from support wanting to know if I still have a problem following their recent advice (I think I may be chatting with a human but not sure) Their advice was "Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the directory C:\Users\yourName\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Fotostory_2026_deluxe\
and delete the Photostory.ini and imp_settings.ini files there (type: configuration settings)"
This I did but it hasn't fixed the issue so I will let them know. Thanks for your help and advice David

The last email from Magix had no signature however I got the feeling it may have been a human. The previous email had a specific suggestion to try so it too may have been from a human but without a signature who knows.

I admit defeat. For the 3rd or 4th time the bots say they have insufficient information to understand my problem so can I please send everything about the issue and the PC yet again. I have done this several times under the same case number. I cannot continue like this so I admit defeat. I would like a refund and go back to the 2025 version which is almost identical to the 2026 except for the glitches. Anyone know a way to get through to sales to ask for a refund?

Hi

I, too, had a repeat email asking for more information that I had already given along with an image of the issue.

To ask for a refund, email infoservice@magix.net.

I would also suggest you include a link to this topic.

The Photostory 2025 installers are available in your account at magix.com, login icon is top right of the home page. Use the email address and password the software was registered with.

Iv'e this morning had yet another email this time saying "I am an AI support agent continuing to assist you. Thank you for providing the additional details and the forum link regarding the "RC String 8875 not found" error in MAGIX Photostory 2026. Currently, there is no official solution or fix available for this error when using Classic View in File Explorer. MAGIX technical support is handled via email, and there is no phone or remote support available. Resetting the program’s configuration files may help with some issues, but does not resolve this specific error. If your issue is still not resolved, please reply to this email directly. Your case will then be forwarded to a human support agent for further assistance."

Now correct me if I am wrong but if there is no fix for this issue then yes I will still have the issue!! Surely to goodness why isn't there human intervention after all this BOT madness. I might reply but I doubt it will do any good, why should it after so many attempts.
