Picture in Picture - Ability seemingly lost & how many sequences can appear at once?

Xenofex2 wrote on 3/3/2015, 10:25 AM

Whilst I have actioned a 'picture in picture' sequence before, this time I'd thought I'd try to see if I can put two or more short video sequences onto a still plain blackground (jpeg).

In my first attempt a black jpeg was on Track 1, the first video seqence on Track 2 with it's unlocked audio (I had done a fade in of the audio) on Track 3. I went through Effects>Movement Effects>Size & Position and using the 'toggles' at each corner moved the sequence to the top left of the screen. So far so good.

The second video sequence was then placed on Track 4 and I tried to do exactly the same, except this time the aim was that the video would play in the bottom right of the screen. This time I have been unsuccessful and whilst a check on some Youtube Tutorials show that one can add two picture in picture sequences to a background video, in my attempts not only have I been unsuccessful, I have now lost the 'dotted lines and toggles' at each corner ability. It also seems I cannot even now go to the picture in picture sequence at the top left and move it around again and so have no idea what I have now clicked on. Does anyone have an idea please? I have taken a screenshot of my latest attempt.

The additional question is how many 'picture in picture' sequences can appear on screen at one time, and can they appear on a still image?

Hi,

This is a real tough one. In the Effects dialogue, click on the button that says Edit. You are in Preview mode.

How many? How many tracks do you have? 9 is easy.

To easily get the same proportions for each image and place them equi-distant, try using the PIP tools for a start. Then modify as desired.

John,

Brilliant. You were right. Just clicked on 'Edit' and no problem now.

And your tip on getting the same proportion. Got that working as well.

Thankyou

George

Hi George,

i recall going through the same thing once for a frustrating couple of hours before noticing the Edit button was on Preview.

If you search back in this part of the forum, you should find a couple of threads in which we discussed PIP. There were some good tips if I recall correctly.

Regards,

John

Thanks again for that tip. Will have a look back. What I have done over the last year is to finally set up Evernote, and so those useful tips that I think may come in handy one day, instead of writing them down or trying to get those grey cells working, I put them into my MEP Folder within Evernote and so can instantly refer back to those useful tips for me, and so find they are instantly at one's finger tips.

Quite modest of you John. I did look back and so found the thread and then your excellent tutorial on PIP and masks.
