I do not have any portrait taken footage to test but turning landscape images into portrait by rotation I cannot replicate this behaviour. Perhaps the orientation metadata of a portrait shot is not being read correctly.

Hi Gid.

Try not resetting the size position rotations of either clip in use or you are not isolating each clip from the background mask.

Same thing happens with still images (MEP 2022): one on top of the other, the one behind only appears when the video level of the one in front is lowered a little.

MEP 2021 no issues.

@CubeAce I think i understand that, but i should be able to apply two portrait clips & move the one behind without having to alter/add Size/Position to the top one to isolate it from a background mask, the mask should already be transparent?.

Here's two different portrait clips, same again i had to add Size/Position to the top one & alter/move it to make the one behind show, I want the top one to be central unaltered,

@CubeAce Easy enough to demo, set up Movie setting of 4:3 and use 16:9 images. Normal Landscape will do it too.

Interesting, I tried it with 9:16 jpg & added on top a 9:16 transparent png of a white dot, i could this time move the jpg behind without any alteration to the png on top.

so i converted a jpg to png, this time again i can move the picture behind without having to alter the image (png) on top 🤷‍♂️ must be the transparency.

Hi Gid.

I am beginning to wonder if some of these changes in behaviour are not deliberate alterations from Magix to differentiate product lines and why some 'bugs' reported are not being fixed. Personally I have never had to use this function. I assume it's main purpose would be for a video slide show or similar which is really the territory of Magix Photostory Deluxe. So why do everything in one program when you could own two? 😏🙄 Of course I could just be being cynical.

Same problem in VPX13. I used a portrait image, duplicated, moved, no image. Click on Effects, Video effects, Sharpness and the image returns, even without adding any effect. Click back onto Size/Position/Rotation and play and the image disappears. Note that just clicking on Size/Position/Rotation then spacebar does not start playback. I have to click somewhere else, like on the timeline, then play.

Definitely a bug.

I think some of you know a little while ago i moved to Vegas because i wanted a better plugin to track my van number plate so i could mask/blur it out in my YT vids, I think it was one of you two that introduced me to Boris, thanks, I'm now £2-3k lighter, Mocha Pro is brilliant tho & some of the fx's are amazing, But i do miss the simple U, T & Z trimming of clips in MEP & the ability to add a 12fr crossfade easily to all events, I've kept MEP up to date & have been really impressed with the export times & the way it plays 4k with transitions fluidly at a good preview res (Vegas doesn't 😒). so ideally i'd like to use MEP more for my general editing then use Vegas as a sort of effects editor, but it's these little bugs with Section & this in this post that are holding me back,

In these clips I've altered all the reg plates, it's a simple thing but it's hard to explain the pleasure it gives by how easy it was to do with Mocha,

When I read the first line I thought you had moved to the States 🤣.

Boris do some brilliant effects used by a lot of TV companies but as you say, they ain't cheap.

Amazingly stable 3D tracking there. Very jealous at such seamlessness.

You'll need to fit a few more kitchens 🤞.

@CubeAce 😂 Haha, noooo, 😂 Yeah the replaced no' plates can seem as if it was the real thing if you get good tracking, there's so much in those plugins i'm still going through learning & discovering stuff, that's what i wanted, i enjoy the challenge of it all but i've wasted so much time just paying, even to a point where i should be working quoting & doing drawings for my jobs but i get side tracked & find myself at 2am 'playing' 😂🤦‍♂️

Yeah not cheap, but i don't have a wife,life, kids or pets,,, 🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️😂😏

I've seen someone do the Harry Potter moving images on a held newspaper with the image partially masked by moving fingers on the newspaper with Mocha. If you are really into learning about vfx have a look at these people.

Wife,life, kids or pets can be cheaper than cars,drink, or gambling 😇😆🤣

@CubeAce Tools, van & my PC are my expenses, all of which earn me money 🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️😁 This was one of my first attempts at doing the swipe thing, i learnt a lot from this, yeah masks can be added on top of images on top of masks on top of images...within the program, but Mocha slows down Vegas so much it's hard to get the swipe transitions of the events to correspond with the finger, & i put my name on a bus 😂 Putting an image on paper is quite hard to get the movement right, the paper has to have some good detail that can be tracked,

@CubeAce There's so many fxs on my pc now i get a bit lost trying to remember which is which & what does what, they pretty much all have there own presets & multiple controls, some i still haven't a clue what they do, one problem tho with having all these fxs is i can't watch tv without noticing something, then i'm off playing for hrs trying to recreate it, 🥱 just as well i don't have a wife n kids 😂

I think half of the illusion is not expecting something to be a special effect. As long as it isn't an impossible thing like an alien spacecraft in the sky or out of place as an object within a scene it should go unnoticed. The hard bit as far as I can see is matching the lighting or on complex movement, the amount of adjusted key frames where needed. You certainly need a powerful machine as I only have the Boris titling effects and playback within it's own editor is painfully slow on my machine but once rendered gets put into MEP or VPX quite quickly.

@CubeAce Yeah i think that's what i was meaning when i say i can't watch tv now, the obvious effects were amazing but now i see lens flares & glows, lighting, Bokeh blur & 'Looks', many of which need masking,

In Boris Title Studio, text added to a still image, jpg etc. is seriously slow but on a video clip it works a bit better, fairly smooth but still not perfect, so now i render jpg's into MP4s
