Portrait Pixel3 images displayed correctly and NOT

FF22 wrote on 5/12/2020, 6:31 PM

I'm back after taking a vacation from my vacation slide show. Since MEP 2020 was occasionally barfing (crash, but no crash report), I decided to give MEP 2016 a try. Well, besides the Preview being oversized (not fitting the window and not the issue) I found that SOME of my Pixel3 Portrait oriented jpgs were rotated on their sides in 2016 whereas in 2020, they imported and displayed correctly (upright). I attempted to fix them using ROTATION but then the Titles were on their sides. Fixed that, too. After editing the sound track (the main reason for 2016), I saved. I then opened in 2020 (pressing my luck). But I found the Pixels oriented correctly. BUT I think the only Pixels wrong were those with Titles grouped with the image. Does 2016 not recognize the exif orientation flag? Or was it the titles that were blowing it away.

And I only ask to satisfy my curiosity (killing the cat be damned)

PS - hope everybody is well.

I think John EB in the past has stated it is the jpgs orientation flag that isn't always picked up.

If I'm wrong he will probably correct me in about seven hours time. 😁.

As for MEP not sending crash reports. I had the same problem with MEP on my last install of the program (Latest version) but now seems to be working again. The crash report wasn't even coming up sometimes and other times would come up but say the report couldn't be sent. If you have Windows update always running it could have been the update before last as mine played up around that time. I'm now on Windows Build 18363.778 Version 1909 and all seems well on that front.

Out of my curiosity, why 2016 over 2020 for editing the sound track? I came on board with MEP with version 2018.

Actually, on further examination, MANY of my PORTRAIT shots (pixel and panasonic) are lying on their side. Again, they were generally okay (videos needed rotation back to portrait) in 2020 but opening the project in 2016 screwed them up. And after saving the project in 2016 and re-opening on 2020, they are screwed up. I'm tediously fixing them.
