Problems loading and editing video

Hi, I am using MEP 2016 on windows 10 (21H1), I have not used it for a while, but after importing a video I can tap play, but when I press the stop button it jumps back to the beginning of the video, also if I select either storyboard, scene overview of timeline mode, the area is blank and the original video disappears, to be replaced by an 8 sec blank video, selecting undo I get a message - undo is no longer possible, I guess there has been several updates to windows since I lasted used MEP, so I wonder if I should reinstall it, which brings another problem, not using it for a while my password for Magix does not work( I have had to create a new account to post this), so how can I reset my account so I can re-register MEP.

Hi Robert.

I think MEP 2016 only supported up to Windows 7. At least that is what it said on the box.

If it has been on your system since then and you have upgraded to Windows 10 without having at the time to re-install MEP, then I would strongly advise against re-installing as you may lose further functionality. There may well have been Windows updates that have stopped some functionality of the program.

Check the option Spacebar stops at current playback position in the Program settings, Playback tab is checked.

If you have an Intel processor with suitable integrated GPU check it is selected in the Program settings, Display options, Video mode dialog. If Intel option is not available and is showing an AMD or Nvidia graphics card - in the Import/Export tab try turning off both Hardware acceleration options.

This should not be necessary and is a last resort option.

What is your computer specification - see this topic for details of what is required and please quote the processor/graphics card/chipset make model in full.

@CubeAce Ray, there are plenty of programs that run quite happily on newer versions of Windows. Did Windows 10 even exist when that box was made?

Hi Ray,

You mentioned MEP 2016 then showed the box for MEP16. They are not the same. MEP16 came out long before MEP 2016 and there were several versions in between (MEP17, MEP MX, MEP2013, MEP2014 and MEP2015 IIRC). I still have MEP2016 on my computer and it works fine. It was the last version before the Update Service started replacing the previous version.

Thank you all for your reply's,

I have added my computer spec's, sorry should have read that first, spacebar stops at playback position, was not selected, so that is now fixed

both Hardware acceleration options were off, so tried switching on but still the same, so turned them off again

I can load a video and it plays fine, but as soon as I try to change from Timeline mode, I just end up with an 8.00sec blank video

Thanks for the computer specs.

I suspect that the Intel integrated GPU, the HD 530, may have been disabled in the BIOS and is not available for use - you can check this in the Movie Edit Pro's Program settings, Display options tab as shown in the example below from my old laptop - if the HD 530 is available it should be set in this option, if not available it needs enabling in the BIOS

Once set, the 2 hardware acceleration options Import/Export tab should be turned - they should hold.

Also check that the Intel graphics drivers are up to date - for your processor GPU the latest version is 30.0.100.9955

I checked for any updates with the Dell update software, but all up to date, I had been using MEP on windows 10 before, so thought it should have been still working.

Just noticed something, had been too quick to load a video, when I open MEP, then select create new project, the 8.00 sec blank video is already there, without my loading anything ?

If the setting is set to the GTX GPU that is not correct - please read my post again - the setting must be changed to your Intel integrated GPU the HD 530.

Hi, sorry for the delay responding, John EB, you are right I did not read you post properly, the HD 530 was not showing, was not sure how to allow it in the BIOS, so had to check first that I understood what I was doing, now showing in MEP, so ticked the boxes, loaded the video and it was the same, rechecked the settings, all looked ok, so reset them, set it all again, closed MEP and opened it again, video played ok and modes all working.

So all fixed,
