Product stops running, immediately

I upgraded to Vegas Movie Studio 17 which did not go to well but finally got it working. I tested it again before doing the update, which has not yielded any success. The program goes through all of the initial steps but when it is supposed to actually open the edit screen it comes up with the error screen " the program has stopped running". The build number is (179) and there have been numerous others with similar issues on the forum. Since there appears to be no way to directly contact customer service I am at odds for how to carry this any further. Please help!
