Program crashes system

nchirikos wrote on 11/30/2013, 6:46 PM

I have MEP 2014 on my Windows 7 64 bit system.  The last 3 times I attempted to export a project to the MPEG-4 format, or upload directly to Youtube, the system crashes and reboots.  The very same video exports to AVI without problem.  What's going on??

Hi,

Did you read this sticky?
http://www.magix.info/uk/please-do-the-following-before-posting-your-question.forum.621831.html

In particular, full details of your files (as reported by MediaInfo or GSpot) and your export settings would help us to help you. And details of what error messages if any you get when '...the system crashes and reboots'.

It's not clear whether you've successfuly exported to MPEG4 before. If so then that implicates this particular project as a likely cause of the problem. If so, make a small, non-confidential project exhibiting the problem and use File > Backup > Copy project and media into a folder, zip it up and upload it so that we can see what you mean and maybe try to reproduce it.

If on the other hand this is a general problem, you could try experimenting with a few settings yourself, such as these two:

Thanks for your reply, terrypin.

I read the sticky, and did search a bit. I saw many reports of this issue, focusing on the thread by mcoop.  I have a similar hardware setup as her, with an ATI Raedon 8600 dual screen setup. It is touchy, and I have seen similar issues with video editors before  (AVS Video Editor).

I reset the 'video/audio-hardware acceleration for mpeg-4/AVCHD to "checked"

On the same tab, 'Always use DirectX9'  was unchecked.

I reset the Display Options-Video mode to "Standard mode".

My next attempt to export was successful.  I will try another time or two today, to see if these settings give consistent results.  Luckily, I have a friend locally who is proficient with MEP.  Observing him use it was why I purchased it.

I will report back when I have more results to share.

Cheers!

Hi

Do you mean MEP stops responding and restarts? Or do you mean Windows crashes........ because I have never seen this happen.

If you have been doing a lot of work on a large project and RAM usage is near the limit, then I would always save and close the program and restart the program prior to export. This unloads the memory cache MEP creates and frees up Memory for the render.

Hi Peter,

Do you find that's better than just deleting Undos and Cache via the Edit menu?

Hi Terry

Maybe.... but theoretically that is doing something similar.

System crashes with bluescreen.  Did it again yesterday after one successful mpeg-4 export of a 236mb mp4 file.  I was fooling around with the settings, trying some of those suggested on the forum. Still haven't isolated the cause.  I have 8gb system memory so don't suspect that, but cache setting may be at fault. Don't know how to check that.  Will try your suggestion of closing program prior to export. Thanks.

Surely a bluescreen is an indication of a hardware problem - faulty RAM or processor or cooling perhaps?

Well, after 3 more successful exports, I believe it is a settings issue.  It may be related to cache memory as scenestealer noted, or some video hardware anomoly, but it exports to mp4 for smaller files. I will attempt something larger, noting the settings and report back if it fails.  Again, thanks for your interest. MEP is a great product.
