Program malfunctions- removed it- cant re install-lack of install link

Markus-Miikkulainen wrote on 3/29/2021, 6:09 AM

Hi,

I am in trouble with Movie Edit Pro Plus 2021 program.

I  have previous versions also, but now I purchaced a year update for it. I downloaded and installed it, and it worked fine yesterday. Now I opened it, and I got a notification of a new update. I agreed to update and after that the Program did not work properly. It did not show the movie in the screen window, it was black. The sound was hearable. Every time when I started the playback (from ”L”-key) it first did the preloading before starting the playback. It notified about the preloading at the bottom of the screen and a blue bar went from left to right. It took a while. It has not happened ever before.

I decided to remove the whole program and previous versions from my computer and to reinstall it. But now I dont have a link for it anymore. I used it two times for the first installation, because something went wrong for the first time.

How could I get the program back and installed as it was yesterday?

regards,

Markus Miikkulainen

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

You should be able to redownload the installer by going to your Magix account. Log in and go to My Products, where you should find the installer and serial key.

BUT, I notice you say you decided to remove the whole program and previous versions. These actions may NOT have been advisable! First, you will have lost any features (e.g., add-ons or effects) from those earlier versions which might have been available in MEP 2021. Second, and potentially more serious (depending on exactly HOW you carried out the actual removal) is that, if you used the standard Windows Uninstaller you will almost certainly still have remnants of the earlier installation(s) on your computer! It is more than possible that these will, effectively, prevent the new installation, either from installing fully or from running properly once installed. This is because the default Windows Uninstaller writes a log of the events of each installation; unfortunately, programs like MEP write additional files after installation is complete and when the program is first and subsequently run. The Uninstaller log knows nothing about these files and so does not remove them!

So, before attempting any reinstall you need to ensure that everything connected to the previous install is totally removed. The usual advice offered here is to download and install the free Revo Uninstaller and let it do a thorough search of your hard drive(s) in order to find and remove anything connected with the prior installation of MEP (just make sure you check carefully everything it tells you it is going to remove, especially if you have any other Magix programs on your computer).

Once the full uninstall is complete, reboot your computer and attempt the reinstall and update. If the initial problem is still present, please post back with full details of your computer and the errors you experience before you even think of further drastic surgery, like uninstalling again!

Thanks Jeff,

I did uninstall the way you described unfortunately. I cleaned the computer with CCleaner afterwards. I succeeded to download the Magix program, installed it and updated it to newest version. It still has these malfunctions. The preview monitor in black, does nor show anything. And it does that preloading always when I start the playback. Also the "Create a project"-opening window has partly german language in it as it should be all finnish. That is not a biggie but odd.

The program worked fine yesterday.

What should I try next?

@Markus-Miikkulainen

CCleaner unfortunately would not necessarily find those "leftover" files. (I have CCleaner Pro and, for what it does, it is a pretty outstanding utility, but it is, primarily, designed to help with removing redundant Registry entries, the contents of the Recycle Bin, temporary internet files, and files, e.g. Temp files, whose "life" is intentionally short. I doubt it would especially help in your case, sorry!)

As a first step towards resolving your problem, does this post help?

If not, I think we need to know a lot more about your computer (please read this post for the level of really useful information required).

Ultimately, if the above procedure does not resolve the issue for you and if your computer hardware at least meets, and preferably exceeds, the minimum requirements to run MEP, you may have to follow the procedure I outlined before, i.e. a complete uninstall (using Revo) followed by another install attempt.

Hi, thanks for your effort. No that "post" did not help. I tried it earlier when I googled my problem. I have win 10, I have run all the updates.

At the bottom is the other info of my system. I must clarify again, that the program worked fine yesterday. Today when I started it (maybe clicking the icon that belonged to previous version) it notified about an update, which I thought I all ready had but I allowed it anyway. After that the program had all these problems which I described earlier. I think I may have to go through that process that you explained.

Hi

. . . . i7-3770K . . . . . After that the program had all these problems which I described earlier . . . .

The computer is the problem - it does not meet the minimum specifications required by MEP 2021 - there is no Intel integrated GPU that the program can use and is a must have - the absolute minimum being a HD 4000 series iGPU.

Similarly the GTX 680 graphics card cannot be used either for Preview acceleration - the minimum being a GTX 1050.

Nvidia/AMD graphics cards cannot be fully used for accelerating export rendering. They can perform some acceleration for effects however the final encoding is done by the Intel iGPU.

Ok, good to know, still I wonder how it worked without any problems yesterday? I don't really know what that iGPU means? Should I have an integrated graphics card as well as an independent card and both better than current ones? What is the minimum I should do to make my system work with your program?

Hello, Welcome

The iGPU stands for Integrated Graphics Processing Unit. That setting controls the amount of memory you give to the integrated graphics on your motherboard.

@Markus-Miikkulainen

I can't directly answer your question as to why it worked before but no longer does but the minimum requirements for a computer to run MEP 2021 are listed here. I can only assume that this latest update requires some facility your current computer hardware does not include.

The need for an iGPU means that the Intel CPU you have in your computer must include a graphics facility on the actual processor. As you have discovered, not all of them do! A separate Graphics Card  is "useful" as long as it at least meets the system requirements demands.

By the way, there are no Magix staff here, we are all fellow-users, so the program is not ours.

Hi

. . . . What is the minimum I should do to make my system work with your program? . . . .

That depends on what resolution video you are working with:-

  1. SD - 720x576 or 720 x 480 and HD (720p) 1280 x 720

In the program setting Import/Export dialog ensure the 2 Hardware acceleration options are tuned off and the lighting icon bottom right of the preview monitor is on, ie blue.

  2. FullHD 1920 x 1080 (1080p or 1080i)

As for 1 above and also use Proxy files - the setting is in the Project settings.

  3. 2.7K, 4K UHD and higher.

A new computer with at least a quad core Intel i5 or i7 processor with UHD 520, preferably UHD 630, integrated GPU, 16GB of RAM and 1TB minimum SSD or hard drive, a smaller (512GB) SSD can be used providing there is a second hard drive of at least 1TB for the video source files, project files and exports.

If you were to consider using a laptop then the hardware compatibility becomes more complicated as many have an Intel processor with integrated GPU and a Nvidia graphics chip, however do not allow both to be used. The only laptop manufacturer who clearly states this is Lenovo.

A Nvidia or AMD graphics card can be added at a later date if necessary unless you use other programs that need one.

@Markus-Miikkulainen Re your blank video issue, try a different type of video. Many people have had this blank/black video in the monitor when installing MEP 2021. There are quite a few forum threads about it, with suggestions to rectify it.

The blue preview rendering bar along the bottom comes up on my 2019 version (it is a feature of recent versions, actually), depending on how complex and long the video clip is. Sometimes it is super-fast, other times, it takes for ever. It may just be something you'll have to put up with until you replace your machine (not that I am suggesting that at this point!).

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
