Project length vs. actual video length

Hi all, Please forgive this very basic question! I have searched the video tutorials and watched many that don't provide much help.

I'm also completely new to Magix Movie Edit Pro; I bet the answer is very simple, but I just don't know the terminology yet. I have my video (MP4) imported into timeline 1 and it has film and/photos that take me to about 15 minutes. Fine - good with that. However, the timeline, i.e. project (believe that is what it's called here) stretches out to 25-28 minutes of black, unfilled space. I haven't been able to see a way to cut it at the 15 minute mark or trim or...

I'd love any help someone might be able to provide. It's just difficult to search and find exactly what I need to do without knowing the exact terminology.

Thanks much!

Diane

Hi,

If you press End, does it take you to the end of your project (objects on the timeline) or beyond them?

You can always scroll to the right, way beyond the end of your project.

Another way; if you press on F your entire project should fit the width of the preview monitor. Does it or does it extend beyond the end of what you expect is your project?

If so, then scroll down in the timeline to see more tracks to see if there isn't something beyond the 15 minute point.

Hi Diane.

On the playback monitor to the left of the stop / start play buttons you will see two symbols. [ and ] . Play or scroll to where you want the project to end and press the ] symbol. That should then make the blue line you see above the controls the length of the start and stop points. Then when you press the [ > ] symbol it will play and it will export between the two markers, even if there is additional material at the end that you haven't cut away from the project. It is best practice though not to have additional material at the end (or beginning) that you don't need.

If you don't have additional material, then at the bottom of the editor to the right use the button shown to do the same.

(Clicking on the image will enlarge it).
