REDGO USB Capture device - "no recording device has been found..."

Hi,

Has anyone ever tried the REDGO capture device available cheaply at amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/REDGO-Converter-Capture-Digital-system/dp/B07BNK1MSK) and got it to work? It seems to install ok on my Windows 10 64-bit system, but Movie Edit Pro 19 doesn't recognise it as a recording device and shows "No recording device has been found on your system".

Also does anyone know if there's a specific standard, or group of standards, that capture devices need to support for Movie Edit Pro to recognise them? The capture software that came with this device seemed to be able to see it, but I don't want to have to deal with separate applications when capturing from VHS.

From experience I would avoid any cheap USB video converter - they either are not up to spec and drop frames regularly or have reliability issues which lead to a poor investment - did you read the reviews on it?

Personally I would invest in a good brand eg Terratec, Happauge

I did read the reviews on it but, at the time I got it, there were only 3 reviews; a 5-star one, a 3-star one, and a 1-star that was someone trying to use it on a Mac :-) I thought it was worth a punt and I'd send it back if it didn't work. I just wondered really if it was just me. Unfortunately I struggle to justify spending 'a lot' as I don't use it very often, but I guess you could argue that, at least, when I do it, it should work!

I managed to get my old USB capture device going though, which probably isn't much good either but at least it seems to work, so the REDGO one doesn't matter; it would've been nice to only have to plug in one item (the USB) rather than also have to plug in a separate audio cable like on this other one - http://www.altoedge.com/video/video-to-usb-dvd-maker.html
