Reframe 360º video on MEP 2020 ("360 Panorama" missing?)

emur wrote on 5/4/2020, 4:25 PM

Hello!
I have Movie Edit Pro Plus 2020 (Steam Edition) and I can't find any way to make a "360º reframe" video like on this tutorial from the 2016 version: http://magazine.magix.com/en/360-degree-videos/

It seems to lack the "360 Panorama" plugin or any equivalent to make "regular 2D videos" out of 360 footage.

Can you help me?
Thanks

Hi Emur.

That's because the Pro Plus version does not support 360 video.

Hi! The "Pro" does not support 360 video but the "Pro Plus" do.

The other 360 effects are working, it's just the "360 Panorama" that is missing. Without it I can only export equirectangular 360 videos. I'm unable to reframe 360 footage and blend it with other regular "flat footage" and render a normal movie.

@emur

Sorry. My bad.

Can you give a screenshot of the problem as It's not something I've tried. I don't think many of people here do 360 work. I don't, but I am willing to try something out to see if I have the same problem. Only problem is I don't have any footage. Is it possible that the flat footage needs to be larger than the 360 footage to work? Something to pan into?

This is an equirectangular 360 video example:

This is a reframe 360 video example:

This is the "360 Panorama" effect of the MEP 2016.

It does not exist on the MEP Plus 2020.

But I just discovered that I can workaround this issue by combining the effects "Section" and "360º scene rotation".

Not a super pleasant workflow because I have to position the keyframes by dragging each slider, one by one.
It would be much easier to add the keyframes like with the "360º editing" effect, where I just turn on the "360º view monitor", frame the shot using the mouse, press the "Direction of view" button and the sliders automatically lock on the current monitor position. But anyway...

On a sidenote, I just realized that this is an user forum instead of an official support from Magix. I'm really bummed with the company costumer service. Here's what happened:

I purchased the product on Steam. Went to the Magix support page, created an account, registered my product and when I tried to create the ticket, the site returned: "Unfortunately your last registered product is too old. You can buy a voucher in our shop."
I thought this was an error since I have the most recent edition of MEP but there's no way to contact Magix about it. So I headed to their Facebook page. Commented on a post with no reply. Sent a Facebook message that they took 6 days to reply and the provided answer was a link to this USER forum.

It feels like it's downright impossible to get real support from this company!

@emur

It appears to be the effect above the one you clicked on.

It just seems to have been renamed.

Try going to your registration page again and see which products are actually listed as registered and when. Online support lasts one year from date of purchase. So far I have not had this particular problem though I have and do have other problems from time to time. Normally I've had replies within four days but maybe with the current working practices this has slowed down somewhat. I think my last request took eight days.

The 360º Panorama is now part of the 360º Editing effect is it not? It is even more sophisticated than in MEP2016.

For Magix Support, you have to raise a ticket here.

Oooohhh I get it now. The "360º Editing" effect is elusive.
When I import a 360 footage on the timeline MPE asks if I want to "Activate 360º editing".

Here's the catch: the "360º Editing" effect is actually called "360º Creator" or "360º Panorama" depending on the mode.

If I activate this mode I have access to the "360º View Monitor" and the "360º Editing" effect is used to position flat elements on the 360 sphere. When this effect is added its name changes to "360º Creator" on the effects timeline.

If I don't activate this mode the "360º View Monitor" option will be greyed out and the "360º Editing" effect is used to reframe 360 footage as flat film. When this effect is added its name changes to "360º Panorama" on the effects timeline.

One effect for two distinct functions and three different names. 😵

Thanks for all the replies!

Who'd have guessed?

Looks like we really do need a more comprehensive manual. How many people would have found this?
