Rendering

Can someone please tell me the advantages of rendering as opposed to exporting as mp4,wmv,avi or whatever.
I have never rendered an edit in the many years of using Magix and all my videos play fine.
Generally I export to WMV or MP4 and it usually only takes half an hour or so depending on the length.
I can then watch the video through and make any changes to the original edit if needed and if it is good, then the job is done without going through a 2nd process.
Why the many hours extra to render for no better result?

Hi Doug

Not sure what you mean. Exporting "renders" the timeline to create the exported file.The only other rendering would be Preview Rendering to make preview smoother during the edit, on sections that are heavy with effects. It does this by creating Proxy files for those sections in a different format/resolution that loads the CPU less. This is similar to Create Proxies which uses a similar process to convert all the imported files when they are placed on the timeline. Whilst rendered at import, these files are ignored for the originals during export.

If you are happy with what you can see just playing the original camera files on the timeline then just export to your target format / template. No need for any other steps.

@Scenestealer
Thanks Peter.
I guess that's what I have been trying to work out for years.
I still mix the edit down to preview because the edit is usually full of effects and the extra process takes too long.
There are only certain effects that have trouble playing smoothly so I have never had the need to render.

The need to pre-render for a smooth viewing of your film while editing depends on the capacities of your computer. If it is powerful enough, you hardly need to pre-render. If it is rather weak, your are thankful for the possibility

Thanks. That's why I have never used it. As I mentioned, it is just as easy to mix the whole edit down to wmv .
There are only a few effects that prevent smooth playback for me.
