Movie edit pro premium 2020. In the Media Pool area, when using effects, the pane containing the lists (Video effects, Movement-etc) is too wide causing the actual controls for the effect to be pushed too far over to the right. Is there a way to shrink the 'list' area without having to re-size the monitor section?

If you mean like this then yes.
Just drag the monitor away from the other box and then grab the Effects section at the side to slide over.
If you men change the width of the effects column, then I have no idea how to achieve that or if it can be done.

Dragging the monitor away is not necessary - just drag the boundary between the preview screen and the Media pane, the Preview monitor will resize automatically as shown below
The Effects list pane cannot be adjusted - it has been requested as a feature.

Thanks - I missed that bit, however re-reading the original post it is the List pane that @Roger-Hall wants to shrink to increase the area for the effects controls - this as I said above cannot be done.

I didn't think the other column could be adjusted as I have never been able to do it. but then I've probably only ever scratched the surface of a program this large.

I think you misread my post - as I said above the List pane (part) cannot be resized.
I also spotted a small error - auto correct replaced pane with part - corrected.
If you look at the last few seconds of the video clip I posted, you will see I hovered the mouse where an edge should be and no handle appeared to change the width of the List.

Thank you guys... I kind of figured it was impossible. Yes, a 'fix' or 'patch' would be great! Why not include a feature where we could actually move the items withing the list up or down.... ie: move the Chroma key button down towards the View/Animation group etc..... that would be SO helpful. Or, even, be able to group your favorite buttons together.... just thoughts. I'm a music producer - doing music videos...on Youtube

They are sort of grouped in a useful order, I think you soon get used to where things are.
If not I think you can create your own keyboard shortcuts to open different effects.
John EB should be able to tell you if this is possible.

Hi Ray, though originally from the UK, I now live in the desert - NM. No, I'm not a product designer... I do music and video production. And I sincerely thank you for the idea of keyboard shortcuts. I agree the buttons are logically based but I swap from one to another with great speed and keyboard shortcuts will be fantastic.
Just upgraded to Edit Pro Premium from 2015 version. I think they've done something with the colors - they seem - more vibrant. Been reading a little about LUPs... not sure how to integrate a color/18% grey chart for evaluation.

For shortcuts and to change or add some, go under File, Settings, Keyboard Shortcut.
Click on the List button to see an easier view the shortcuts assigned. Scroll down to Video Effects.
For Chromakey, Alt+Shift+B.

Many thanks John...... you wouldn't happen to know why when a movie is exported in HEVC (Mp4), the sound is OK but, instead of the video.... it portrays some crazy lyrics from the group 'Pearl Jam' What the heck is going off.... yes I paid for the codec.

If you mean LUTS (Look Up Tables), MEP Premium can't store them or create them I think. You would need VP-X for that. You can store presets for saturation and colour changes though.
You couldn't manage a screen grab of the other problem could you please? I've never seen that happen. I notice on your other videos, quite a bit of green screening going on. Are you doing anything similar in this one that may explain some sort of bleed through?

Hi Ray..... yes 'LUTS' I may have found a way - not sure - do do with the Test images (in the Image Objects folder), along with DGK calibration charts..... it's not 100% crucial. Just trying to get the best WB and colors.
Mp4 playback was never an issue with Movie Edit Pro 2015
However.... the Mp4 problem.... with premium....

Interesting.... when the choice of export is MPEG-4, thats how it renders - as a m2ts,
When exported as a HEVC it renders it as a mp4 and.... this is what happens....
The music is fine but.... unbelievably - lyrics of songs pop up from nowhere...
Please note.... when the weird mp4 file is put back into MEP, the video (and music) is great. Video is fine. It only fails to play in Windows Media Player and produces these unknown lyrics. Is it possible, when I downloaded the codec from Magix, it did something to windows media player. All other files play great in Windows Media Player.

I don't think that has anything to do with export choices but may have a lot to do with any imported file types if they have any type of DRM attached to them. That could bring up what I would term a 'spoiler' so you don't get the image you used. That is what it looks like to me but then again, wmv. Not the most reliable video format in the world and most complained about in relation to Digital Rights Management content not working as it should.

MEP 2020 does support LUTS - see this comment - as @CubeAce has said you cannot create them in MEP.

You chose an AVCHD export option which is the default displayed in the drop down menu- click the drop down at the top of the Export dialog- also check the Display all option to see all export options.
Where did you buy the HEVC codec from?

Hi guys.... first of all - thank you SO much for your help.
Ok.... the imported video has nothing to do with export. (There are no DRM or rights of any kind.) I've used the MTS video shot in my own studio for years - no issues. Also, every type of export has been tried from the display choices and still a file rendered as MP4 will not play video. Interestingly, the weird lyrics (from who knows where?) have been replaced with a black screen. It appears to be the codec downloaded from Magix's own download page that is not working. (Purchase for $5.00).
Opening up the same video clip in MEP 2015, (my old version), renders it to a MP4 with no problem. Thus eliminating the possibility of the computer or Windows Media Player. So, I guess it is the codec from MEP. So what does one do?

I'm using the Magix codec with no problems but then again I stay clear of anything to do with wmv files. There are too many reported problems on the net associated with using them and false DRM issues. The HEVC codec(H265) is the paid for codec. MPEG-4 is H264 or are you referring to the alternative MPEG-4 Main Concept codec?
