Restored PC and now there is a file missing

faisal_ahmed786 wrote on 7/9/2018, 5:10 PM

Hi,

I was having issues with my computer and had to restore my PC. No files were deleted however I did have to install MAGIX Video Pro again. I have two issues:

1) When I open a previously saved project, I get the error below. A file named 'default.def' appears to be in that folder but it doesn't pick it up.

2) I seem to have lost Quick Looks, which came with my old version of Video Pro and continued to work in the latest version.

Please help.

Faisal

. . . . A file named 'default.def' appears to be in that folder but it doesn't pick it up. . . . .

The file is a dummy file, however you must not delete - what happens if you click Skip ?

. . . . to restore my PC . . . I seem to have lost Quick Looks . . . .

Did you do a Windows installation restore or a System restore.

Is the old installation of VPX still there - if so you may need to re-install/repair the installation.

I think it was a syste restore.

The old version is gone, I installed again via the email link. Not sure how to repair?

faisal_ahmed786 wrote on 7/10/2018, 9:44 AM

I have repaired the software and updated. There are no errors when I open the file anymore.
I still have two issues:

1) Quick Looks not appearing?

2) When I try to import files that were filmed by a certain camera (G25) the software closes down. I already had some clips from that camera in the timeline however only the video plays (there is no sound). The audio track is in the timeline as if it's meant to work. When I jump to a part of the timeline with audio from a different source it works fine.

(Yellow part has no sound but rest work)

I believe the G25 records it's video files in AVCHD so you are probably suffering from the Windows 10 MTS file problem answered here https://www.magix.info/uk/forum/audio-issue-mts-files--1205780/?page=4#ca1393449

John EB will probably advise you better than I can.

Hi

Version number is 15.0.3.154. Video pro 8.

This was the same version I had before I did the system restore.

@faisal_ahmed786

In your screen shot there appears to be traces of a waveform (spikes) extending down from the top of the soundtrack which I have never seen before. They should come up from the bottom of the track??

@Scenestealer

I think those "spikes" are actually dips in the audio level! IOW, the waveform image is actually filling the box - i.e. it's pretty "loud" - and those spikes/dips actually represent temporary drops in level.

@faisal_ahmed786

If you had QuickLooks as an "add-on" to an earlier version of VPX you will need to reinstall that earlier version first, then perhaps select to donwload and install any additional content for that version (assuming you still have the appropriate serial numbers). Then, hopefully, QuickLooks will be available to the later version of VPX.

I think I bought Video Pro X6 and it came with Quick Looks. I then updated to the later version and Quick Looks was still available under 'Other Effects'.
