Settings not saving

I suspect it might be helpful if you were to supply the information requested in this post, especially the version and variant of MEP you are running and which Windows Update you refer to.

I'm running Win 10 1903 with MEP 19.0.1.31, the latest version. I made the same change as you to the Spacebar Behaviour setting (just as a test) closed the program, re-opened it and the changed setting had stuck.

So this does not seem to be a problem that is universal.

Hi there,

Using Windows 10, version 1903 (os build 18362.418)

MEP version 18.0.1.213

It's been working fine since installed last year, then suddenly it's all gone haywire since the Win 10 update a couple of days ago. Also noticed that it's not saving my "last opened projects", keep going back to displaying nothing when I reopen MEP. Any changes that I make to the settings are ignored. Also tried to change the "Folder Paths" in the "Program Settings" option. Same problem, any changes I make are ignored when I come back into MEP.

Hi Anthony.

Try going to File / Settings / Movie / and in Movie Settings make sure the box 'Use settings as presets for new movies' box is ticked.

For further info : I've just reverted back to "Windows 10 build 17134.1069" and hey presto everything is back to normal. Seems to be a problem with "Win 10 build 18362.418" affecting MEP settings....a bit weird.

Thanks for the updated reply and for the solution (for you). I wonder whether the problem occurred for you because you are using the previous full version of MEP, 18, rather than the current one? As I wrote before, the 1903 Update of Win 10 has not caused the problem for me, running version 19.

I just looked at my machine and I haven't downloaded that update yet. I am on the earlier 18362.418. I have paused my updates to see if anyone else has this problem.

Hi Anthony.

Just to say that my versions of Windows 10 and MEP are now both up to date and can't replicate your problem.

Having said that, my version of Windows is saying it is still on 1903 version 18362.418. (KB4522355) seems to be an optional update which I have left alone for now.

I suspect you will have the same issue .

The reversion from Windows 10 1903 ( build 18362.xxx ) back to Windows 10 1803 ( build 17134.xxx ) would suggest that you are using Windows Defender as your anti virus/firewall in which case this may be the cause of the issue.

Windows Defender which has a feature turned on by default in the 1903 version of Windows 10 ie Protected folders. This is meant to be an extra layer of protection for the PC, however it is known to cause issues with some programs not being able to saving their settings.

The options to fix this are :

Turn off Protected folders function completely

OR
Add the MEP into the exclusion list for Protected folders

I have stopped using Windows Defender and have reverted back to using another anti virus product, because of other issues with Defender.

Thanks for that John. I have never used Windows defender in any version of Windows so that could be Anthony Philips problem.

Apparently so. It's the (KB4522355) update that apparently I have been able to delay the update of which now John EB seems to have explained about Defender causing issues I wasn't aware of (having never had it activated) I will now also update if it seems relevant.

The build numbers of Windows 10 the first part before the decimal point ids the version ie 18362 is Windows 10 version 1903, the numbers after the decimal point indicate the current cumulative update installed that you are up to.

So far I have not been offered the KB4522355 update, which pushes the version number up to 18362.449 and, from the list of issues it fixes, can see no reason why it should be deferred.

Sorry, KB4522355 is build .449 which is the latest. Might be a good idea to install as it lists a lot of updates and fixes.

The latest I have been offered and installed is build .388 🙁 but no problems here with Defender and Windows.

With Defender, the biggest issue I had occurred every time I loaded a project into MEP or VPX - it insisted on scanning every file and slowed down project loading.

I abandoned Defender a few days ago after trying it for a while and went back to Avast, loading is now much faster.

Thanks for the tip John, that rings a bell as I am having similar trouble. Did your options to fix this have an effect on the Project loading times when using Defender?

Hi Peter

There was no difference whether Protected folders was on or off - a project of ~ 270 objects, a mix of ~ 100 images and ~ 170 4K video, no proxies, would take about 2 mins to load in VPX when Defender was the anti-virus, after reverting back to Avast, the same project takes ~ 20 secs to load.
