Shooting in Haste

Hello friends, I have a quick question on shooting videos. Sometimes we go to places where people are shy to be filmed (India, Arab world and so on).

Also there are times and situations that are not favourable for shooting (like train station, a funeral, restaurant, riot, storm etc). I mean situations where we are not setting up the scenes and situations that are loaded with haste and confusion. We won’t have that much time to set the gears, lights or even audio in proportion.

Can anyone kindly suggest some useful pointers, some MUSTs for a good shot. For example in such situations do I keep the light in mind or the composition or the gears?
At least some basic to-dos for good shoot.

Regards.

Anirban,

I'm not much into narrative shooting but would offer at least one perspective:

If you ever find yourself filming a riot, think personal safety first and then just shoot. I'd think any carefully framed, exposed and composed shot would look a bit 'fake'. Same, to a degree for storm or other disaster situation.

When I was regularly shooting (B&W stills) I'd try and have my camera set (manual -- not anything auto!) to a sensible aperture and shutter speed for the conditions so I had a better chance of getting a useable first shot and then make adjustment if there was time.

I'm interested to see what others contribute.
