SOLVED: Can I control clip transparency by keyframe / in the timeline?

I am quite new to Video Pro X (17.0.3.63), and I can't find an answer from the manual for the basic questions above. I'd be very happy about a little help:

What I already know is that I can...

  1. fade in and out using the related controls at the clip's beginning and end
  2. change the whole clip's transparency using the related control on the clip
  3. cut a clip to apply 1. and 2. to individual subsections of a clip

But this doesn't solve my problem: I need to fine-control transparency within the clip on a frame-by-frame basis, e.g. to achieve specific blending and crossfading.

I assume that the correct approach would be something like "keyframing alpha values"... I know there's that "keyframe window"; but don't get how to add alpha / transparency there as a controllable parameter.

I am sure I've just missed the crucial part here, so any small hint might be helpful!
