Have you tried going to Windows settings\ system \ Display \ Graphics settings and added VPX to the Graphics performance preference and set VPX to either Power saving or Let Windows decide? Do not set it to High Performance.

It was set to High Performance! Have changed it to Let Windows Decide. May I ask how this helps... I genuinely have no idea.

Hi.

Setting the Windows mode to High performance virtually locks off the Intel GPU's performance within the Video Editor.

Some prefer to use the power saving mode which puts the Intel GPU more in charge but I tend to use Let Windows decide.

Meanwhile, acting on John CB's advice, I looked at the various relevant folders and was concerned to see that they were all listed as being in One Drive. I have been trying to get away from One Drive (although it keeps importing my stuff and I can find no way of stopping it) and have removed loads of folders from it. So was VPX looking for files in a redundant place? I changed them all and there was an immediate improvement in the performance; am hoping this continues when I resume work later.

I suspect you are signing in to your laptop using a Microsoft account, possibly with a Hotmail or Outlook email address and password, instead of a local account - you probably did this when you first set up Windows 10 as it wants you to use a Microsoft account and hides how to create a local account - is this correct?

You can check in Windows Settings, Accounts to see what type of account is being used as shown below

If so then that complicates things as you would need to create a local administrator account, copy all the documents from the Microsoft account Documents folder to the local account Documents folder and then uninstall One Drive to permanently get away from it.

I have managed to block One Drive from accessing anything on my machine but never thought to try to uninstall it until I just tried. I just thought it couldn't be done.

To uninstall One Drive Type in Control Panel into the Windows search box and press enter.

When it come up make sure you select the Small icons view.

Then select Microsoft One drive and uninstall.

Do make sure you have all your files first and that you don't rely on it for your email to be connected.

With some versions of Windows 10 One Drive cannot be uninstalled, however it can be disabled - see here for more info - I should have added this to my previous post.

What,all is going to OneDrive that is related to VPX?

Does this include the C:\ProgramData folders? The program under C:\Program Files\MAGIX?

If these folders are not going to OneDrive, then I would assume that you could use another drive or some area outside of what OneDrive picks up to put everything that is under: C:\Users\your_name\Documents\MAGIX in another location.

I am reasonably confident that I uninstalled One Drive last week. Certainly cannot find any mention of it on my laptop. Although I do keep getting desktop messages saying that I only have so much storage left in One Drive. Getting rid of this thing is difficult indeed.
But, as I said, I hadn't told VPX of any of this. And I wonder if that has caused the recent problems.
By the way, my account details list me as Administrator.

I have OneDrive but it is on a separate USB Hard Drive, and only files that I put in there are saved to OneDrive. Thus, My Documents is not saved under OneDrive.

That said, it is important to have a backup of everything one way or another.

That may be so, however is it a Local account as shown in the image I posted previously or a Microsoft account?

If you are still getting the OneDrive messages after un-installing, I suspect it could be a Microsoft account.

Hi John. You are right... it's a MIcrosoft account. There is an option to sign in with a local account instead. Should I do this?
Also, under Program Settings/Display Options/Video Mode which option should I choose? Standard, Compatibility or Alternative?

For future reference could you please put your whole computer specs, version of Windows and Video Pro X version down into your signature so when you ask questions we have an easy to look at guide as to what may be a relevant answer to questions you ask?

Standard Mode Direct 3D should be your first choice in settings with your system. Compatibility mode (video for Windows) is for those people with no way of engaging hardware acceleration.

I'm afraid I can't answer your Microsoft question as I run the Enterprise version of Win 10.

As I reported yesterday, I went into Program settings in VPX8 and changed all the folders from One Drive to my desktop. I have just opened VPX to discover that they have all changed back to One Drive. So frustrating. Is this because I am using a Microsoft account, as discovered by John EB.

I have logged in with a local account. But still VPX8 is looking in OneDrive for everything. I cannot even locate any folders that are NOT in OneDrive. It really is a pain. The OneDrive program has been deleted from my laptop; can anyone advise how to get out of this fix? How do I extricate myself from OneDrive forever?

When I browse for folders, I go to Desktop and then select the folder where my Magix projects are being saved. But it still then shows up as OneDrive! This is infuriating.

Noooo! Nothing should be on your Desktop except shortcut icons to folder. Definitely not your documents or anything else for VPX. The Desktop is not a storage area.

Use Windows Explorer. Create folders under Documents or elsewhere (never under any Windows, System or Program Files folders.

For changing OneDrive, look up "Change the location of onedrive folder on pc" on the internet, read, watch and follow the instructions.

The online guides start with selecting the OneDrive icon from the taskbar. But I cannot do this as I uninstalled OneDrive. Am wondering if I am misunderstanding all of this. Everything I read says that OneDrive backs up folders and files; so why does VPX automatically select OneDrive as the primary source for everything? I click on Windows Explorer and every folder I select is prefixed "OneDrive". I just want to rid my laptop of anything and everything related to it. Just can't figure out a way of achieving this.
