Sound and volume problems

Arkadiusz-Marzec wrote on 9/12/2021, 1:50 PM

Hello
I have a few problems with Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium 2022, which I bought a few days ago and I can't use it.

1. Sound and volume
I volume down the sound in my film (File MP4 Canon 80d) and export to Wav and the sound stays on the same level - voluming down doesn't give anything and this file is the same as before exporting it.

2. Export to format mp3 doesn't work.

3. Problem with the same file.
If I cut the file on the timeline (MP4 canon 80d) and I join the transition then from the moment of transition the sound is defective, bad.
If the same files on the timeline (MP4 Canon 80d) are synchronized, the sound is defective, bad.
The problem is not only on my computer with Magix with keys but also on my second computer where I have test version. I use Windows 10.
Please help me.

Hi.

There are a few different ways to adjust volume within MEP.

If the volume from the video is not recorded loud enough from the camera there is only a certain amount of additional level that can be applied.Any increase in level also increases the floor noise level of the recording.

Notice how loud the actual recording on my clips are. They are just short of the 0dbm line.

Export to mp3 is currently broken in MEP 2022. It is a known bug. Awaiting fix.

No idea of what you mean on your last comment. Probably better to post a video of the problem so we can see or hear for ourselves.

Ray.

@CubeAce Ray, I read #1 as @Arkadiusz-Marzec is reducing the volume on the timeline, exporting it as WAV but that WAV volume isn't lower, it's the same as the original clip volume.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

How are you adjusting the volume? In the mixer or on the object?

When you export, is Normalize checked or unchecked?

Hi Al.

I understand. Yes it could be that if the point is to reduce the volume of the sound but there is nothing to be gained in doing so and possible additional detrimental side effects. If the original recording is distorting due to clipping then reducing the volume will not remove the distortion. Once an audio clip has any defect, the defect is baked into the recording. You can use something like the de-clipper for the odd click but even that is not perfect and can introduce unpleasant sound in its place.

That does make the rest of the post make more sense. In which case if the original is really distorted there is very little anyone can do.

I don't get what you are trying to do.

Four copies of the same file is very unlikely to maintain any form of complete sync at a sample level. You haven't answered any of my prior questions including if you are running the project from your C: drive, so I'm afraid I can't help any further.

Hi.

I don't get what you are trying to do.

Four copies of the same file is very unlikely to maintain any form of complete sync at a sample level. You haven't answered any of my prior questions including if you are running the project from your C: drive, so I'm afraid I can't help any further.

Ray.

Hello
I do not write back because I do not know English, I showed in the movies what errors the program makes.
I have had Magixs for several years, I did not have such problems on earlier versions with this program. I do not use 4 copies at a time but I wanted to show that with 4 copies the program is doing fine, but it cannot handle a cut file and an inserted transition.
In the place where there is a transition, the program calculates the sound incorrectly. My films were to show that by throwing 4 copies of the same files but with different names for version 2022
poses no problem and renders them correctly. The problem is if there is the same file on the timeline at the same time, or if it is cut and a transition is inserted, then the program is not working properly.
calculates the sound at the transition point. I checked it on two computers and the error is the same. In version 2022 the program renders bad if there is sound on the top axis and the image from the same file is coming from the bottom axis, even if the bottom track is muted to 0.
Files E :, windows C: renders to D: It doesn't matter, I did different configurations and it's always bad in these places. In the previous version of the program I had files on E :, Windows C: rendering D:

Hi.

Thank you for all the additional pictures and further explanation.

If your project is on the E: drive it is too full. It is why the bar has turned red. You need to create at least a 10GB space or preferably nearer 20GB for.

Files are written to and deleted from that drive while the project is rendering the files. Some will be Windows files. Some files can be quite large and if fragmented will be hunting possibly across quite large areas of data. Also your nvidia card is not showing up in any of the information on your system which makes me suspect everything is now being processed by your via your Intel HD 630 graphics. On my system the Intel GPU (also an HD 630) is struggling with multichannel projects and I've had to set everything to my nvidai card for best playback performance and rendering. I don't think the nvidia will show within MEP as the nvidia GTX 940m card has no dedicated output.

So it could be a combination of both problems as the new program seems to be needing more processing power than the last version. But Start with trying to create more space on your E:drive.

Ideally you want projects on an internal drive that is not the C: drive and export / render to the third drive whether it is external or not.

If this still does not work well for you I would personally revert back to MEP 2021.

If English is too hard write in, use your native language. We can always use Google Translate.

Hi
my E drive has 39 GB of free space (the drive is 2TB).
I'm trying to tell you that it doesn't matter because I'm testing on two computers and the same thing happens on both of them.
The program has enough disk space when I put 4 tracks with different names as shown in the movie, but 40 GB is not enough for it to make a correct one track with a transition.
In my opinion, the program has a disadvantage - an error, I do tests on two computers, I change files to other ones and it's bad. The program should be fixed because it renders badly. It has the 2019 version and I didn't have these problems with it. Today I am installing the old version 2019 and starting work on the stereo version, customers are waiting.
The software manufacturer released the program with an error. And either he fix it or let it return the money.
I believe that until it is fixed and I cannot use the program fully, I should have extended my work time on this version because I bought it for 365 days.

I reinstalled version 18.0.1.209
I did a test with the same files and no errors.
The conclusion is that version 2022 has bugs.
In the 2022 version, I also tested Lumixs files and after reducing the sounds to WAV, you can hear crackling noises just like on vinyl records. This is also a bug in version 2022.

Hi.

Personally I don't think it is a bug as I can't replicate the problem.

I played four copies of the same file in sync and apart from having to reduce the gain of each channel by -12db to compensate for the additional volume of playing the same sounds over four channels to prevent audio overload and then putting a limiter on the output master channel to ensure no clipping occurred, it plays fine.

Then I used the same clips on the same track and randomly mixed the output at full volume. Still no problems.

The clip is 4K, 50 frames per second, at 100mbps. 48kHz.

Note please it is the nvidia card doing most of the work.

I think it more probable that MEP is now demanding more powerful systems for more demanding projects and that perhaps it would be safer for you to stay with the earlier version.

If you wish to ask Magix about your problem to see if there is a solution it would now be best to contact them via raising a ticket through your Magix account.

Remember that the specs page only guarantees the program will work. Not that it will work well or better unless the hardware is there to support it. New versions nearly always need more up to date components to actually perform better which is why they use the term 'Up to five times better' and then quote an ideal system in the 4K and 8K specifications. On my system the only improvement is slight improvement in export times for a given project using HEVC but MP4 exports now equal the export time of HEVC at the same resolutions but I am at my systems limits now I think. If I want to see future improvements in future updates I may well need a better nvidia card as I think this is the way the program seems to be going.

I went back to version 2019 18.0.1.209 and everything is fine.
I wonder if you really have version 2022?
In the post on 9/13/2021, 9:27 your PLAYBACK tab looked differently like in the 2019 version and on yesterday's video you already have a Playbeck tab like in the 2022 version.
You separated the sound from the picture, I didn't think of it, but I just did the test with separation and it didn't work, it's still a bug.
I have two copiers, on the main one I went back to the 2019 version, the second one was the 2022 version and on it I did a test with separation, but it turned out badly.
This is the CPU load on version 2019 movie 1 , 2 movie is the second computer with version 2022
Both computers had the same problem.
Both copiers can handle one path and render correctly. both copiers render four files at once but with different names correctly, both copiers
they can't deal with 2, 3, 4 of the same files but on different timelines.
I reported the problem to Magixs
I can send you my file for testing but your e-mail is needed.

@Arkadiusz-Marzec

You are correct about the image I posted showing buffer setup. That was from MEP 2021 but was only put up as an example from my image library but I was using MEP 2022 for the video I put up. I always run with video and audio on separate tracks.

From loading the program.

What I do notice is that when you are using MEP 2019 you are close to using all available system ram. In MEP 2022 you are actually running out of system ram on both machines. Some system ram is always kept in reserve for Windows so Task Manager will never get to the 8GB but to within a few hundred MB below. I also notice there is no hardware encoding being done on either machine in either version of MEP, just 3D rendering.

A comparison view from my attempt.

That clip I am using is only just under two minutes and already the project is going above the 8GB ram mark. Not to mention my additional vram from my graphics card. I have 10 minute projects than use 24GB of system ram.

As I said earlier, the system must be at least up to all the minimum specs to run. It should exceed them to run well. Try to see if you can get the nvidia card to do anything in the video encode decode department or even the Intel one. You can not change system program settings with an active project. Settings must be changed before loading any projects or files. I am surprised if not a little disappointed that you can't do this with MEP 2022 but it is the audio that uses up system ram more than the video content on average.
