I have just uninstalled Sound Forge and have jumped to Acoustica. I also have had SF since version 3. I can't deal with the continued instabilitiy when other similar tools are robust.

Just paid the license and uninstalled SF :( .. that's 25+ years of a tool and it's no longer

@WhyB Sound Forge went from Magix to BorisFX at the beginning of April. Maybe check out the demo version of Sound Forge 2026. I assume that BorisFX will start to bugfix a lot of the old annoying bugs introduced over the last couple of versions.

Just too late, years of problems and tonight was the last straw.

I've literally bought a new software and mentally moved off Sound Forge for good. It will have to be one hell of a fix and stability effort to even get me to look at it again.

hi @WhyB, If you just recently purchased Sound Forge18, BorisFX will likely give you Sound Forge 2026, which is what they are currently doing with Vegas 23 purchases. If your interested, contact BorisFX support.

Acoustica looks nice, but I dread having the learn another new program at my age, I too have been using Sound Forge since v3, and SFP 14 and 15 are usable.

@rrayd, thanks, I was contemplating upgrading but I have done so the past 3 revisions with the bugs not fixed and popping back up after the trial period. This has caused a huge lack of trust and everytime I go to click the purchase button, I remember the pain I have gone through on projects I had to rely on SF for crashing over and over and over again with deadlines looming and that purchase button for me is pain.

Then I found Acoustica so far for game development authoring and tidying up of looping files and editing it's STABLE!

I have been on the edge of wanting to upgrade to SF18, but I have had no confidence in doing so since the bugs usually come out after a while not the first week of using it.

I have been on this edge for a year or more. When I found Acoustica, the edge was removed and there was only one direction left. Leave SF - trust is broken already.

Even if SF was stable now, the SPEED at which Acoustica loads in 10-12 seconds over SF's 1-2 minutes with a crash at the end. It's a no brainer.

At my age I need peace so I can enjoy my job instead of exploding at the tools. Decades of SF editing.. this old dog loves new tricks!

SF is awesome.

Stability and peace using a stable tool is more awesome.

I’ve never used a program with an interface as clear and smooth as Sound Forge (same with Vegas), but their frequent VST plugin bugs—essential for audio work—plus High DPI issues (still in 2025!) made me switch reluctantly a long time ago. For editing, I use Acon Acoustica now: it’s lightweight, launches instantly, and very stable with all my plugins. It also has a batch converter and excellent restoration tools (Premium version only). I don’t know about more elaborate macros, as I don’t use them.

I also like the “Project page" for mastering in Studio One. It’s simple, well laid-out, and has good tools for exporting, including DDP. Wavelab is well-regarded among pros, though I haven’t used it myself (if you know Cubase, it should feel familiar). I’ve never been a fan of Adobe’s subscription system, so I can’t really comment on Audition.

Trying the demos—when possible—is really the only way to see which one feels right, but they’re all capable of getting the job done.

Sound Forge has been sold again!

Now it's in the 4th hand: Boris FX.

However, the first version under Boris FX is still hi-DPI incompatible!

I might migrate to another audio editing software too.
