Sound Forge Audio Studio 14 - can not master

UGB wrote on 1/1/2021, 11:06 AM

I've not used Sound Forge since Pro 6 and that had a Wave Hammer, Master for 16 bit setting that made my files much louder w/o clipping for broadcast, etc. I can not find anything like that in this newer version. I can't even find a compressor. I did Normalize the file but how do I get to the Mastering section of the program? There's nothing in Help or anything about this. Thank you and Happy New Year.

Which version of Sound Forge?
Sound Forge Pre-14 has the legacy Wave Hammer, and the new (not as good sounding IMO) Wave Hammer II. It also the has a legacy 'Track compressor' as well as others, including iZotope's 'Ozone Elements' which has a volume maximizer as well (also IMO, not as good sounding as the legacy WH).

Welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users forum and best wishes for 2021 @UGB.

Thank you. I have Audio Studio 14. How do I access these mastering features?

@UGB

You have Sound Forge Audio Studio 14; the feature you ask for you had previously in Sound Forge Pro 6. The Audio Studio variants of SF are not as fully-featured as the Pro versions, they are, essentially, cut-down versions. I believe one of those "cut-downs" is the Mastering feature you are seeking.

Alternately, the free "LoudMax" VST plug-in is popular with loudness war solders. It does not have that vintage '1176 Leveler' type sound though, if that is what you are after.

If you go to this link

https://www.magix.com/us/sem/sound-forge-audio-studio/features/#c1185565

and scroll down you'll see the feature called iZotope Ozone 9 Elements and I can't find how to use this at all. I think this is where I would find the tools I need to boost the db level w/o clipping. Thanks.

I am not sure about Audio Studio, but in SF Pro, installing Ozone Elements is an option in the SF installation file (manager). Ozone Elements is a VST plug-in, so look for it where your other VSTs are. Upon opening Ozone, it will ask you to activate it on-line, Magix would have sent you a separate serial code in the email, If you do not have the email with the serial, you will need to contact Magix Customer Service.

Ozone does not show up on my VST list, yet it clearly shows it should be a tool available to me in the version of Sound Forge I bought. I guess it's time for a support ticket?

Assuming Ozone was installed.. Confirm the Ozone plug-in <Ozone 8.dll> is in the default or an alternate 'search folder'. Many VST plug-ins are installed to the Steinberg folder by default (Program files, and Program files x86),

For VST search folders settings go to "Options> Preferences> VST Effects" However, this for SF Pro, in the Audio Studio version, the VST search folders settings could be elsewhere.

I just got a new, to me, pedal to use as a guitar and bass processor/interface and while searching for some files for it I saw isotope listed somewhere in my pc, so it's in there. I just don't know how to get it in Sound Forge.

UGB wrote on 1/12/2021, 5:54 PM

That doesn't seem to work for me. I can not get ozone/izotope to appear on any menu in Sound Forge, period. I want to write an email to support here but there's no option to write an email, just endless loops of FAQ's that I've tried but do not work. How do I get in touch w/someone at Magix in support? I'd like to send them jpegs of my screen showing that these things are NOT on ANY menu no matter what I try. This is why I bought this program and I can't even FIND the process to try and use. Super frustrating!!!!!!!!!

Ok, a small victory. Upon a file search for iZotope I found it and discovered it was never installed. Why wouldn't it have installed when I downloaded and installed the program? So I installed it, found it, opened it, registered it with the number I was sent when I purchased the program. That number doesn't seem to work for some reason. This is so frustrating. Can someone from Magix tech support please contact me? Or can someone give me tech support contact info? This should not be this difficult.

@UGB

These are user to user forums, so no-one from Magix staff is going to contact you, sorry!

For iZotope products, the usual method for registering has to be by entering the supplied serial number on the iZotope site, not the Magix site.

Have you tried that? With what result?

Ozone Elements is a separate installation option in the Sound Forge installation manger and has it's own serial number, which also should be in the email Magix sent with the SF serial.
