What is the bit depth of the file and do all file formats (MP3, AAC. PCM), ect.) exhibit the same error message?
Try a different audio 'playback device' in "Options> Preferences> Audio". 'Windows Classic Wave Driver' and 'Microsoft Sound Mapper' are usually trouble-free with internal sound cards.
