hetal-t wrote on 5/15/2024, 8:41 AM

I am creating EQ processes to clear the background noises. but not able to find the location on my pc where it is being stored.

can any one suggest the location ..?

Not able to find the stored process at below location

C:\Program Files\Sony\Sound Forge Pro 10.0\Presets\

C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Sony\Sound Forge Pro\10.0\User Presets\

"User Presets" this folder does not exists

I want to back up all custom processes because when my pc change / uninstall the sound forge for some reason and re install the again, don't want to create the process again..

How can I take back up up of all created process and import the same. so no need to create again and again, as it needs too much effort to create it.

Using sound forge version 10, windows

Please guide.

@hetal-t The standard Sound Forge plugins are DirectX plugins and all settings are stored as values in the Windows registry.

For example under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\DirectShow\Presets and HKEY_USERS\Some-long-ID-number\SOFTWARE\DirectShow\Presets

I just searched for the preset names in RegEdit and they came up. You can then export and import the values.

There was also an old Sony Preset Manager tool available. I found it on archive.org. It lets you manage presets for Sound Forge and Acid, but I don't know if this will run on modern Windows. I haven't tested it yet.

The legacy SCS (Sony) Preset Manager 2.0 works on my my Win 10 PC manager for Direct X plug-ins and plug-in chains. VST presets can be copied and pasted directly which you are probably already aware of.

@SP. Thank You. I found the preset in registry and Export it. How can I Import it again, when I re installed Sound forge.

@hetal-t Did you use the Windows registry editor?

After exporting from RegEdit you'll get a *.reg text file. You can reimport it via right-click > Merge. Be sure you only exported the presets and not something else!

Before re-importing I suggest you first create a test preset on your new installation and check where exactly it is saved in the registry.

Then check the reg file with a text editor whether the IDs are the same in your new installation as in your old installation. If not, search and replace them first in your reg file and save it. Then merge the file into the registry with a right click.

Would it be possible to "convert" the old DirectX plugins into modern VST plugins?

rraud wrote on 5/18/2024, 9:57 AM

I am not aware of any DX to VST converter or wrapper. Long ago.. (SF-5/6), there was a third-party utility to run VST plug-ins on Sound Forge which did not support the (new at that time) format .
The only plug-ins I have encountered that were available in both DX and VST, was the Ulltrafunk suite from Sonitus, which was eventually acquired by Cakewalk and later abandoned. I still use the Ultrafunk reverb, it was developed about 20 years ago but still sounds better (IMO) then the latest and greatest emulators that cost several hundred.

Hi, @rraud

I would just like to know if Sound Forge would abandon DirectX plugins, using VST plugins only. DirectX plugin presets do not appear when the plugins are opened again. I think this problem doesn't happen with VST plugins. I asked this question to Support, but I didn't get a response.
Thanks for answering.

@john_barr If you save the presets as user presets under a new name, do they reappear then correctly?

john_barr wrote on 5/18/2024, 7:29 PM

@SP.

When I save a DirectX preset with a new name, it reappears. VST presets reappear without saving with a new name.
