I WAS ABLE TO CUT OR SPLIT VIDEO WHILE PLAYING THE VIDEO IN 2022 MAGIC BUT NOT IN 2026 ITS NOT ABLE TO DO SO - HOW SPLIT VIDEO WHILE PLAYING IT - IN 2026 I HAVE TO STOP SPLIT AND THEN PLAY - I WANT TO SPLIT OR CUT WHILE PLAYING THE VIDEO
Welcome to the Magix (note: not Magic) user to user forums.
First, please don't post all in CAPITALS! Forum Etiquette defines that as SHOUTING and is likely to lead to other users ignoring your posts!
Second, please don't post the same thing twice! I have hidden your duplicate post.
I have never used the facility to cut whilst playing so have no idea whether it worked in earlier versions but I agree it doesn't in VDL 2026. (Personally, I would always prefer to stop the playback prior to making any cut since I want to be sure it is exactly where I want it to be!)
. . . . I was able to cut or split video while playing the video in 2022 MAGIC . . . .
Was this originally with Vegas Movie Studio 17 or earlier, which IIRC could split while playing the timeline?
If so this product was discontinued in 2021 and what you have now, Video deluxe 2026 is from a different Magix product line which was previously known as Movie Edit Pro, then renamed to Magix Movie Studio and is now Video deluxe.
Video deluxe and its predecessors have never been able to split video while playing the timeline.
Do note that when posting give the correct full name of the program, Magix is the company not the product name, and Magic video editor, is not a Magix product
I checked back to Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 and cutting using T on the fly did not work. As far as I know, it never did. Like John EB, I believe that I saw this in Vegas Movie Studio or Vegas. It's one of those tools that I find of questionable value as the time it takes for the brain to say "I should cut here" and send the message to your finger, the moment has passed and the cut will not be in the right place, requiring adjustment later.
As well, the Magix programs apply the cut using T to whatever is at the location of the playback marker, all tracks. To cut just one object, you first have to select it.
One way to do something similar if you just want to get close to where you should make a cut, is to place Snap markers. These can be placed during playback using Ctrl+P. Afterwards, you can then go from Snap marker to Snap marker, shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Page Down, adjust the playback marker to where you really want to cut, then press T.
Please do not duplicate post the same comment in different topics. I have removed your comment from the other topic.
@browj2 has suggested an alternative solution above which is more accurate and less time consuming then cutting on the fly, followed by having to return to the each individual cut and adjust them more accurately.
. . . . i had magix 2023 and had the option of cutting on the fly or on the go . . . .
When quoting product names please quote the full name, Magix is the company not the product name.
John CB and I are of the same view that you had Vegas Movie Studio possibly bought in 2023. Magix Video deluxe 2026, and its predecessors, formerly Magix Movie Studio for versions 2020 - 2025 and Magix Movie Edit Pro all versions, do not support cutting on the fly.
. . . . hope there's a refund from magix . . . .
Under the Magix Terms and Conditions, you have 14 days from date of purchase to return/ask for a refund on your purchase, click the link above for the procedure.
Regrett to have bought magix 2026 - i had magix 2023 and had the option of cutting on the fly or on the go
I don't know why you would want to put cuts on the fly. I can only presume that you would then have to go back and delete the alternate objects that you have created, and probably have to adjust the cut points anyways.
Perhaps you can explain what it is that you are really trying to accomplish, other that just putting in cut points.
If that is what you really want to do, use multicam, which is a much better alternative. Put the source video on track 3 with its audio on track 4, and put a colour swatch on track 5. Drag the end of the colour swatch to cover your entire video. Designate track 4 as the Master Audio track. Switch to multicam. Select the camera with your video as the starting camera. Start playback. Switch cameras where you want a cut point, this will put the colour swatch on track 1. Switch back to the main camera when you want that image back.
Afterwards, turn off multicam mode, and remove all of the colour swatches. You can remove everything on tracks 3 through 5.
Alternatively, if you really just want cut points, you can duplicate the video onto tracks 5/6 and do the same thing. However, you first have to make a copy of the video on your hard drive and give it a different name, then import it onto track 5. This process will give you cut points of the video on track 1/2.
Another solution, instead of playing back, use the scrubber (with or without sound), stop where you want the cut point, T, scrub, repeat.
If the reason that you want put cut points is that you have a long video taken from VHS or something with multiple scenes, then that is entirely different and you don't need to play back to make scene cuts, you let the program do that for you using the scene recognition tool.
I presume that you know how to have audio and video on separate tracks, which should actually be your default setting.
How do i ask for refund its been 16 days now - i promise i can show prove that we are able to edit on fly while plaiying the video in video deluxe which was movie edit pro earlier 2022/23
Did you not look at any of the information that I gave you?
Also, you didn't answer my questions.
When you cut, there has to be a reason. What is your reason for just cutting with T?
Another method, you can drag the playback cursor along the timeline with scrubbing off and press T to cut.
If your objective is to trim, that is, remove parts of clips, just pressing T and making a cut is next to useless.
An alternative is to go into split and trim mode where you can scrub or playback in trimming mode, and cut out parts you don't want. Takes a bit of learning and practice,
. . . . while running the video T key isnt cutting the video - pls guide what to do . . . .
As you have already been advised cutting, while playing the video, using the T key is not possible.
If you do not provide answers to the questions you have been asked and show us how you were able to use the T key cutting while playing the timeline in the 2023 version , there is nothing more we can do to help you other than @browj2's alternative methods for you to try and use.
