System requirements for 2026

Michael-Hopcroft wrote on 12/22/2025, 1:24 PM

I recently purchased Music Maker 2026 and am trying to learn it, at least a little, on version 34.0.0.6, and it keeps freezing and crashing on my system. Now, I suspect that my homebuilt PC, which was state-of-the-art in 2024, is no longer sufficiently powerful. But that is something I want to be certain of.

I have an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core Processor (4.50 GHz), 64GB of system RAM, and Windows 11 Pro. What I need to know is whether any of those components need to be upgraded to get MM26 to function correctly.

I'm going to look a bit deeper on my own and review the manual to see whether the listed system requirements are met, but I could use a little guidance here, as I'm an end user and not a technician.

@Michael-Hopcroft The computer is well above what is needed, but it's highly recommend to use an ASIO-capable external USB audio interface for everything regarding audio production on a computer.

Good to know. I'm using onboard sound, which is OK for my relatively untrained ear, but I can do better. My system is not reacting quickly, so I probably need a tune-up.

Which would be a good time to upgrade my sound if I can afford to get one. I have no idea how much full-system tuneups cost in Portland. All I know is I haven't had one in a very long time and I'm due...

@Michael-Hopcroft

Hi

. . . . Windows 11 Pro. . . . My system is not reacting quickly, so I probably need a tune-up. . . . .

Are you logging in to the computer with a local user account or a Microsoft account?

If a Microsoft account, then is the computer syncing your Document to OneDrive?

If it is using OneDrive then either stop the syncing of folders Music Maker is using for projects, temp files etc, if you have installed Music Maker with the default settings this will be the Magix folder and all its sub folders, or disable OneDrive completely if you do not use it, see this Microsoft article.

@Michael-Hopcroft There are some affordable audio interface on the market, simple ones with two audio inputs and two audio outputs should cost between $50-$100. For example, check out the Focusrite Scarlett Solo, Behringer UMC interfaces, M-Audio M-Track Solo, etc.

Maybe your onboard sound can't handle the realtime processing in Music Maker because audio production software usually needs to be sample accurate, which results in higher load than normal audio playback. But like @johnebaker mentioned, please also check if One Drive is causing the crashes.
