The Audio mastering feature isn't working in MEP2018 Plus

mojoaudioguru wrote on 9/26/2017, 12:47 AM

I can't seem to make the audio mastering feature work, in the latest version of MEP 2018 Plus. No matter what I select, it will not do anything. All the other buttons work, but not the Mastering button. Has anyone encountered this in the new 2018 version? The previous version, 2017, had no issues. However, this version was an upgrade, not a purchased version. (Hard copy) I recently updated 2017, and all of a sudden, I ended up with version 2018. Not complaining, but why doesn't the "Mastering" feature work. Anyone have any clues? OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. GPU: GTX1050Ti, with 4 gig DDR 5 RAM. CPU: Q9550 overclocked at 3.5 GHz, with 16 gig DDR2 RAM. 4.5 TB SSDs.

Hi

What version number is your MEP 2018, after the upgrade there is a patch to install to bring you up to version 17.0.1.130.

If you are on v 17.0.1.130 - are you saying that when you click the Mastering button in the Mixer nothing is happening ie you are not getting the Mastering suite window as shown below?

I can't tell you what version it is, because I'm in hour #8, of an 11.5 hour AVCHD render, and I can't access that screen. However, every single time I open MEP 2018+to work on a project, I always check for updates, and I'm sure I have the latest version. (Or, the version you speak of) The Mastering suite window does appear, and all the buttons / selections that appear under "AUTO MASTER" function. As well as the "MASTERING SUITE" button. However, when I engage the auto master button, and choose the specific choice, (In this case "ROCK"), nothing happens. It is highlighted by the blue ring, and a very fast pop-up, asking you to please wait a moment, flashes, but nothing actually happens. (Or any other chosen genre) No matter how long I wait. I then get out of that window, continue on with whatever I'm doing. When I come back to that window, everything that I've done with the buttons under the auto master button, is still highlighted, but not auto master or mastering suite. They just won't stay engaged. Thus, no mastering. The previous version, MEP2017+, didn't have that problem. I used it frequently, because I shoot a lot of different music videos. So, I decided to reinstall MEP 2017plus. When I did that, I got error messages on BOTH MEPs, when trying to open either one. MEP2018 plus gave a "-59" error code, while MEP2017 plus, gave a "-5" error code. So, I just rolled back the computer to restore it to an earlier day, and MEP2018 worked again. (But of course, MEP2017 was gone) I never got a chance to see if I could get Mastering to work on MEP2017, because I couldn't open it. Thoughts?

Hi

Did you turn on the Auto mastering suite with the 'power button' indicated below?

Of course. I've already explained that I have, and that it doesn't matter that it's turned on. It still does nothing, nor does it stay engaged, after leaving the window, and returning to it. Every feature under it DOES stay enabled, if I've used it. But the one you've pointed to with your arrow, does not.

Hi

. . . . I've already explained that I have, and that it doesn't matter that it's turned on. . . . .

After experimenting I find I can replicate the issue you are having.

Try the following work around (referring to image below)

  • Turn on the Mastering suite (1) if not on.
  • Turn on Auto Mastering (2) if not on
  • Select Rock effect
  • Turn off Mastering suite then turn it on again

The settings should now hold.

Alright, I'll give it a try. Thank you. I have 12 mins left on this render. But, if it does work, and I master the project with it, it'll be another 12 hour render. 😭

johnebaker wrote on 9/26/2017, 2:33 PM

Hi

Try it on a short test project first and if it works then, load the AVCHD you just exported, apply the effect and in the AVCHD export dialog, Advanced settings select Smart Copy.

This should only re-render the audio and copy the video with no re-rendering.

John, I tried what you suggested. Same results. The 'Auto Mastering' does not engage. Nor does it stay engaged, when I return to the Mastering window. Although, I've been using the parametric EQ, the multimax, and stereo processor, to try and achieve the results that I'm looking for, for this particular video, those manage to stay engaged, and are functioning. It must be a glitch of some sort. I'm going to try and reintroduce MEP2017+, and see what happens there. If I can get this project mastered there, I'll know where to create only music based clips, from this point on. Although, I haven't really noticed anything new about MEP2018+, with the exception of this glitch. Thanks again for your consideration, John.

Hi

Thanks for letting us know, there must be something a little different that is causing the issue, hopefully another user can replicate the problem.

Cheers
