Please can anyone shed any light as to what this message means and why I can't upload footage I've just taken from a GoPro?

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.
There have been a number of posts to the forum where members have experienced problems with importing GoPro files. The most likely reason, confirmed by the error message you posted is that the codec used by GoPro is not accessible to your Magix program.
Please tell us exactly which version and edition of MS you have.
Then, please read this tutorial about downloading, installing and using the MediaInfo utility to give us a lot more detail about the actual video files you have.
With all that additional information we should be able to suggest how you may access the footage in your Magix software.

Hi,
It looks like you have connected your GoPro to your computer and think that you can import from the camera to the timeline. You can't. The files have to exist on a hard drive on your computer and they must remain there to be used by the video program. Import your files to your hard drive and use them from there.
Which program and version are you using?
