Hi Ray,

I have BluffTitler Ultimate, version 14.8.0.2. There is a 64 bit version coming out soon, so you may want to wait before buying. In the meantime, you can download the trial and try it out. You get a hundred or so example templates along with tutorials.

BT is a standalone, so you either use a green screen with it or export to transparent AVI for use in MEP if you need a special transition to something in MEP. Or, you can include a video clip in BT.

BT has free updates/upgrades within a version. Version 14 has had many patches with bug fixes but mostly for new features.

As for your comments about Boris, it may be a good idea to follow the manual and tutorials to really understand the keyframing and everything else. Like NB Titler Pro, it seems to be a beast and a memory hog. After applying a title, to get anything resembling smooth playback, I have to do preview rendering in VPX. As for keyframing in MEP/VPX, Magix makes it quite simple and obvious to do, in my opinion.

One thing that I should try with VPX is doing the title on a clip in one video and nesting it in the main video, something that cannot be done with MEP.

HHi Ray,

Haven’t explored the alternatives you mention but I’m happy enough with the version I have. I certainly don’t need any of the extra template packages. If you’re interested and don’t mind investing some effort in learning yet another tool, consider a trial.

I installed BORIS largely out of curiosity and because it seemed too good an offer to miss. But I knew it was very unlikely that I’d ever actually use it. I don’t even use the add-ons I already have (New Blue, Pixelan, Prodad, Xara, etc). Just as well because it didn’t show up in MEP2016 and in 2017 I get this obscure error.

And having glimpsed its daunting UI and complex feature set it reinforces my determination to spend less time learning new tools and more on creative work. A rather similar attitude keeps me from updating beyond MEPP 2017, as well as familiarity and what to me seem increasing bugs and decreasing support.

I work at 1080 res.

Terry.

Hi John.

Funnily enough the Borris editor runs very smoothly inside of MEP when either of the two editors are open but it always has a black or transparent background dependant on which one I pick, but never shows the video clip in the background and MEP can't play a video at the same time as the editor runs so I can see where to sync the output of the title to, nor the texts' relevant size will be within the clip. That has to be done with the two boxes left in the MEP editing space once Borris has applied the text to the clip which then fixes the start position within the clip, which is then not always at the beginning of the clip. It's at that point my key frames don't take or hold onto the settings. Using those external boxes on the Borris plug-in within MEP is when it starts to slow my machine down as well. The sliders are sticky and when they do move they are overly sensitive and the scroll wheel on my mouse produces alterations so small it takes ages. Of course I can type in numbers but that is even more of a guessing game. The effects and ideas are very good but I don't find the user interface that user friendly or it could just be it needs a lot more processing power than I have. It doesn't seem to add much more ram usage so again it could be my graphics card.

Hi Terry.

I have other older programs I can manipulate fonts with such as Dreamweaver if I could be bothered to reinstall it.

I could animate in that and export as a series of jpegs but I still have to explore most of what I can do already with what I have. This would have been much easier just using what I can within MEP. I think I would be like you having programs I'd rarely use.

It would be nice to have more choice of texture or text but my ideas really rely more on how to present text. This is what was causing me headaches. Trying to make a Title go from foreground into the background of the second text.

It's not an actual project, just an experimental run.

I got a memory access violation error as well using Borris but mine was down to trying to use it twice in the same project. Yours looks like it happened trying to load all the effects into the background.

To be fair I'm not finding the current version of MEP to be that buggy but maybe my and your requirements are different.
