Top left corner problem: how to reproduce or avoid

terrypin wrote on 11/17/2012, 7:52 AM

I thought it might be useful to summarise my observations on the 'Top left corner' (TLC) problem. This is how I consistently reproduce it:

1. Place a video object (or a still image with movement added) on the timeline of a new project.

2. Open the 'Export as MPEG-4' dialog and uncheck 'Hardware acceleration' under 'Advanced'. (Otherwise I get the error message shown.)

3. The bug now becomes obvious, as the preview is a reduced size in the TLC.

To avoid this bug occurring I must do as shown here:

Note that if Hardware acceleration is left checked, I get this error message:

Whether or not this bug is somehow related to the 'invisible object' or the 'distorted aspect ratio' problems, etc, that I've reported here recentlu remains a possibility IMO, but the likelihood is that these are different bugs.

Hi Terry

What action actually makes the picture change size?

A couple of points:-

Your JPEG has a width height effect already applied in track one in step 1 - did you do this or did it just appear. What do the size position or section or 3D distortion size boxes say before and after this image appears smaller?

Are you aware that you have the "Hardware Accn for MPEG4 export, if possible" option checked in Prog. settings> Video/Audio? I think this is what Magix refer to as "Automatic selection of HW Accn. for MPEG4 export" If this is ticked then I think it automatically checks the other one in Export Advanced when you hit export even if you have previously unchecked it there. Could create some confusion......

Hi Peter,

First, note that as soon as any MP4 export has been rendered, the preview here always goes blank. it's done this as long as I can remember, in 17, MX, 2013. I can get it back to normal in various ways, such as setting the resolution again, or changing video mode and then switching it back to HW mode.

OK, back to your question about this specific situation. After the render, when I then place the marker somewhere in the clip, it displays in its TLC form. Or if I play it from the existing marker.

--------------------

Yes, I applied the zoom. The bug only arises on video or images with movement added.

--------------------

No, I hadn't focussed on that connection between Hardware Accn for MPEG4 export, if possible and this issue, thanks for spotting it. I unchecked that and, having ensured normal display was restored, tried the export again. I noted that Calculate video effects on GPU was now greyed (and checkmarked). The bug still occurred.

I then went back and checkmarked Hardware Accn for MPEG4 export, if possible again, opened the Export dialog, Advanced, and checkmarked Hardware acceleration again, and closed Advanced. But to my surprise Calculate video effects on GPU was still greyed (and checkmarked). I'd expected things to be back as before. That would have allowed me to uncheck that option (to avoid the bug) and then try unchecking Hardware Accn for MPEG4 export, if possible, to see if that greyed the Calculate video effects on GPU option, but this time with it unchecked.

Since that last sentence I've been trying to restart MEP 2013 (to see if the settings have reverted to the previous non-greyed state) but it freezes shortly after starting, before I can load a project or import anything. Twice in succession. Hang on, now I'll force it with last night's videodeluxe.ini.

OK, settings have reverted, and I'll leave them at that for the moment while I ponder these rather confusing interactions!

With the latest 12.0.2.2 patch the good news is that I can now use H/W Accel under Advanced without a problem.

But if I also checkmark Calculate video effects on GPU then I cannot export because of the error message.

Edit, an hour or two later: That celebration was premature. I'd assumed that this darned TLC problm were H/W Accel related and now fixed. But unfortunately not.

On opening a new movie window and pasting in a clip, it displayed at small size in the top left corner, just as reported before. I'll try to develop a consistent sequence of operations that cause it..

Feedback: Magix confirm that the problem remains in the current patched version, 12.0.2.2 and the bug has been passed to the developers.
