Trouble with Fades

granta wrote on 3/6/2017, 11:19 AM

Hello,  I began having a lot of problems with Movie Edit Pro Premium while working on a video (constant crashes, wouldn't export the entire video - kept hanging up at 16:53 of an 18 minute video-couldn't figure out why).  I uninstalled the program and re-installed it, thinking this would help.  Now some of my fades are not working properly - .

Some work fine, but I get this message on many.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Which specific version of MEP? Or can we assume it is the "new" one that does not include a year?

I ask because it would appear that the uninstall did not work properly and you are now left with the "residue" of the previous installation now interfering with the reinstallation. https://support2.magix.com/customer/de/download/magix-uninstaller-deinstallationsprogramm is the page where MAGIX make available their own Uninstaller, but I notice they say it is only applicable to 32 bit versions.

My personal opinion of the "best" way to tackle this problem, assuming that MX Uninstaller is not appropriate for your needs, is to use Revo Uninstaller Pro (or the free version) to completely uninstall everything associated with MEP. Just check carefully everything it says it is going to remove once MEP's own uninstaller has completed its work, especially if you have other MAGIX programs on your computer. As always, the caveat is that you should proceed carefully when using a utility like Revo. The Pro version will automatically create a System Restore point and back up your registry before it begins the uninstall; I can't remember whether the free version does this but you, the user, can take the two steps (create a System Restore point and a Registry Back Up) manually before beginning to remove MEP.

Once you are as sure as you can be that everything connected with MEP has been removed, I would then reboot your computer before attempting the reinstall.

Good luck!

Jeff

Hi

@ granta

If you are using Windows 10 - use this procedure to un-install and re-install MEP.

If you are using Windows 7 or 8 then use the same procedure steps1, 2,11 and 12

Note you will have to re-install all the add-ons and extras again - if you left them in the download folder last time you installed then only new ones or newer versions will be downloaded.

As Jeff has said 'you should proceed carefully when using a utility like Revo'.

I personally avoid using utilities like this.

Hi,

You might want to try the following tool that I got from Magix.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed

My problem was that I could not uninstall a patch and a reinstall kept coming up with a trial version that worked, but I could not update to a newer patch because the patch remained in the system. The only way to get rid of the patch was to use the above Microsoft tool.

Other than that, you may have some bad mxv files which may be causing the problems.

Good luck,

John C.B.

Thanks browj2! Did the trick.  I've been pulling my hair out over the last 2 days trying to figure out what was going on.

Spoke too soon - Fades are now working properly, but still am unable to export the video.  The program keeps freezing after processing about 95% of the video.

Hi

@ John CB

. . . . you may have some bad mxv files which may be causing the problems . . . .

I have had a similar problem as granta with some mxv files, at the weekend, in MEP Premium, while rebuilding an old project, from scratch, using 7 mxv files - 6 movies and an intro copyright notice clip, created with MEP 2016,

I found the following for the errored files:

  1. click to add to timeline - get error message file is unreadable . .

  2. close error message dialog

  3. click the file a second time to load to timeline - file loads OK

This happened with several mxv files - with, AFAICS, no particular preference over which file it was, ie it was not necessarily the same file(s) causing the issue on the limited testing I did to reproduce the problem.

Project has been rebuilt OK, however I have not had a lot of time to investigate what is causing the issue or trying to see if it is repeatable using other mxv files.

Finally got everything fixed,  The advice given by browj2 solved the issues with the fades, and thanks to Angelos at Magix Support, we were able to determine that there was a corrupt file, which I thought would most certainly be  a fade, but turned out to be a jpeg that I had edited with keyframes.  Once that was deleted, I was able to re-apply the original jpag, apply the kayframes anew, and voila!  No more freezing.  Thanks to all for the advice!  Much appreciated,

Mark
