Unable to Exit or Terminate ProX 13

@tpolakov

Hi

Thanks for the info, a couple of of longshots, which may be related, with older versions of MEP and VPX:

  1. In older versions of Movie Edit Pro, VPX's little brother with the same core features, one of the causes of hanging when trying to exit was the News subprogram not shutting down and causing the program to hang.

    Is the Hide news option in program settings System tab checked? If not try checking it and close down VPX - you will need to use your workaround to get this saved into the ini file.

  2. The Updater' program would not close correctly - in Task Manager, ending this task enabled the programs to shutdown.

    If this one works you can uninstall Magix Cloud if you do not use it to see if this gives a permanent fix.

Hi John

thanks for your efforts, unfortunately these did not help either.

I was able to check the Hide news option and get it saved with one of the "good" projects, and it did stay checked after opening, so it was written to the ini file. Still the program hung on exit with a new project.

I tried to kill the Updater and the Bridge as well, but it did not help either. It's the actual VideoProX process that seems to hang - see screenshot (this is before killing updater and bridge):

I am trying to figure out why these problems only happen on the notebook and not on the desktop, but in fact, the notebook install is as clean as it gets now. The desktop has all kind of additional effects and stuff installed, so I would expect the problems to happen there, not the other way round ;)
Also I am pretty sure this started happening after the previous update patch (the one which was huge - around 700MB).

So to me it looks like the machine architecture makes the difference (Intel/integrated graphics vs AMD/discrete GPU). Still, the empty movie workaround is pretty puzzling...

Main editing machine (Desktop): CPU: Ryzen 9 3900X, GPU: Nvidia RTX 4070 Super, 48GB RAM, System drive: 512GB M2 SSD, several other SSD data drives, Windows 11 Pro

Secondary machine (Notebook): CPU: Intel i5 8350U, integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics, 16GB RAM, 256 GB M2 SSD, Windows 10 Enterprise

Just FYI for this thread - the latest patch update fixes the hang on closing for me. It's actually also mentioned in the release notes.
