Unable to get Hardware Encoding

richartasia wrote on 10/28/2020, 8:45 PM

Dear Support,

I am using Asus G14 with inboard & dedicated GPU but unable to get the hardware encoding to work. It's bad that a powerful laptop is unable to encode any video fast. Your ad says it's it supports AMD processors & GPU but seems like it doesn't. Please update this so it can fully support.

AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS
AMD Radeon Graphics 512MB
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 16GB

With the new 2021 version of Movie Edit Pro, the future of video editing is now. Discover a whole new level of image quality thanks to the HiDPI program interface and full 8K Ultra HD support. Enjoy hardware acceleration for Intel, NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards as well as a new workflow for smartphone videos. Improved image quality. Faster editing. More possibilities. The new Movie Edit Pro 2021.

* INFUSION Engine 2 supports video acceleration for AVC and HEVC on Intel, NVIDIA or AMD GPUs with Intel Graphics HD 630, NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050 and AMD Radeon RX470 or higher.

@richartasia

Hi and welcome.

This is not support but the user to user forum.

No magix staff present here. For that you will have to contact Magix support directly.

For full hardware support on playback it does need the Intel GPU with HD630.

It may or may not use your nvidia card for export depending on the file type you select.

Please notice the bit I've put into the red box. It's a bit of a get out clause in my opinion but there none the less.

Also note the term they use 'At Least', really another way of saying 'Must'.

Ray.

Hi

. . . . says it's it supports AMD processors & GPU but seems like it doesn't. . . . .

The software does support AMD processors and Nvidia / AMD graphics cards, however I assume you did not read all the information about what acceleration you get ie :

The new engine offers support for graphics cards from industry leaders Intel, NVIDIA and AMD. The result is ultra-smooth project previews in realtime while editing ( my emphasis on Previews ).

Nowhere does it say you get Hardware Acceleration for exporting, nor does is it say accelerated export (NVENC) is supported.

Compare this to Video Pro X (VPX) which uses the same Infusion 2 engine and supports NVENC, you will find that the VPX specification clearly states exporting as well for some video formats which can be accelerated ie h.264,/AVC and h.265:

Video Pro X now offers accelerated export times – thanks to improved NVENC support from NVIDIA.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your message. Hardware acceleration for encoding is only possible with an Intel HD graphics chip in Movie Edit Pro. However, hardware acceleration for decoding (playback) is also possible with AMD and Nvidia GPU's.

We are already working on implementing hardware encoding for AMD processors but currently it is unfortunately not possible.

I hope this clarifies the situation.

Thanks, interesting reply from Magix - it will have to come eventually.

Not quite John, Magix is yet to enable H.264 HWA exporting via NVENC with VPX, just H.265 at this point.
