Undocumented shortcut?

terrypin wrote on 2/27/2014, 4:07 AM

Presumably the 's' key (not 'S') has the same result in MEP 2014 for others as it does for me, namely to toggle the media pane on or off? Stumbled aross it by accident.

It works when you are previewing in full screen mode too, and I'm guessing that's its intended purpose, to allow you to change settings from there?

It's not in the list I see at File > Settings > Keyboard shortcut... > List.

Hi Terry,

Re 2014 shortcuts:

S (caps lock) and s do the same thing - Batch conversion. See the screen below for the shortcut list.

To get more or less what you did, the shortcut is Shift+P in my program and in the shortcut list. See in the menu under Window for Media Pool.

Shift+S opens Windows Ex to Save the project.

Thanks Terry and John good to see, but like John B, Shift +P twice while in Full screen brings it up. I thought this had been advertised as a feature of 2014 but never found it.

Now if only they could arrange the different setting sliders across the media pool window instead of vertically we could make the window smaller (less wasted space to the right) so that it did not obliterate half of the full screen,  without need to move or adjust it once activated. It would also mean less scrolling, in standard layout in the "Colour" effect window, to access the lower sliders (eg. when several effects are being keyframed), and I see a german member has recently suggested this as a new feature request.

Cheers

Peter

Morning both,

My keyboard settings are radically different to the default 2014 settings.

By the time that Magix made the sweeping changes to the shortcut keys (with the launch of MEP 17), I already had a major investment in those I'd been using since MEP 11. (To me, it was rather like Microsoft announcing that the Copy to Clipboard shortcut had been changed from Ctr l + C to, say, Alt + F7, etc!)

So I've continued to use the MEP 16 legacy set ever since.

Another major factor is my great reliance on external macros for many operations. Apart from macros that perform sequences of fairly complex operations within MEP, I also use them to simulate a few of MEP's own shortcuts. For example, instead of Ctrl+Shift+2 to bring up Size/Position, one of my most frequent operations, I tap the Numpad '+' key, which I find easier. (Hasn't got rid of my RSI though . )

So, although I use only a tiny fraction of the well over 200 keys currently on the MEP list, managing them is an important issue to me. I've therefore extracted the Magix KB list to a more accessible and easy-to-use text file. It shows keys sorted in various ways, such as alphabetically by shortcut, by name, by category, etc. And a section showing Unassigned, so that I know what's available for new macros.

Coming back to this 's' key, like maybe a dozen or so others I've stumbled across from time to time, it's not on the formal list. So it was in my own Unassigned set. Therefore it was only when I wrote a macro activated by 's' that I found  it was assigned! I'm guessing that the same inconsistency occurs in the modern list as well as my legacy list.

Terry,

Only got so far as to also find that 's' gets me also to the batch conversion window. More interest at the moment (no reds, I swear!) is where on Wainwright's walks of thereabouts you've come across jumping cholla cactus? :-)

Hi Carl,

Well spotted! Or I'm guessing you've been a victim too?

Long way from Wainwright's territory: Anzo Borrego Desert State Park, 20th December 2013, twice in the same walk - excruciating!

Working on that part of my DVD at the moment.

Are you contributing or visiting? Wiki tells me "...the Adelaide Festival of Arts, is an arts festival held annually in the South Australian capital of Adelaide) but looks bi-annual to me, with the exception of 2013?

I'll close this off so that anyone ending up here in future (such as me, when I forget about it!) will follow.

First, the key 's' is included but MEP shows it as 'S'. That rather confused me as I'd thought that reserved for 'File Save As'. In fact any simply letter keystroke is shown as a capital letter. If it's supposed to be a key combination of Shift + letter, it will, of course, actually indicate that.

However, it is presented wrongly in the List window (from which I derived my own lists). That's not only inconsistent with the category window but also oddly corrupted. It shows two keys for some functions, such as the one under discussion. This is seen more clearly when copy/pasted into a text editor.

Ralf confirmed this and has passed it on.
