Unwanted advert from MAGIX

Anyone found a way to get rid of this pesky advert that gets displayed every time I start MEP 2014 please? That's despite checking the 'Dismiss' box.

Hi terry

Check if the Program settings, System tab, Hide news is checked.

Thanks John, that fixed it! Never had to use that before and never recall seeing any ads like that on start up. So presumably the 'Don't show this again' option doesn't work unless Hide news is also enabled? Or is Hide news alone sufficient? Any other sort of possibly wanted 'news' that gets lost as well?

Hi Terry

I have never had pop-ups advertising and with news as I always check that box upon installation.

Hi Terry,

This was the first I heard about MMM2015. It's not available yet on this side of the pond.

I have never had your problem. Even though I have News on, I have never received any in all of the various Magix programs that I have, except Xara, which told me about the new version. I'm feeling left out ( not really).

One user in Q&A mentioned MEP2015. I looked it up and it was available only in German. The Premium version comes with 3 Red Giant plugins. What is worrying me is what have they broken. My experience with VSCL2014, ACL2014 (which I didn't buy), and AML2014 (which I did buy), has left a bitter taste. They forgot the mouse selection mode button, removed fast forward button, removed the scrubber buttons, forgot the mouseover hints on the buttons, and removed the possibility of adding plugins, and this is the state of heir "Pro" version AML2014Premium. At least AML2014 has some goodies and handles video, thus replacing VSCL.

However, this does not bode well for MEP2015.

Hi John,

I'm afraid I share your apprehension. Despite Ralf's unstinting efforts, MAGIX software release quality control has never been strong and shows no signs of improvement.

I'm not a programmer, although I did a lot of it very early in my IBM career decades ago. So others here with current experience will be better qualified to comment. But I personally see no evidence that MAGIX thoroughly test all features to avoid introducing regression errors. Nor is there apparently any serious motivation of the development team to fix long-standing bugs that never quite made it to 'high priority' status.

Realistically, I suppose it all comes down to how they use limited resources.

And bottom line IMO is that MEP is still unbeatble for overall feature richness, usability and value for money. Pity about the SW QC.

Hi Terry,

Thanks for your reply. We can expect some bugs in every new release. What I am worried about is what Magix will remove. As I mentioned for AML/ACL, they removed the Mouse Mode button, so if you click on the scissors (like the razor blade), the cursor stays in that mode and there is not button to go back to Mouse Mode. You have to go into the menu and find it. Imagine if they did this in MEP? They removed the scrubber tools - no more scrubbing. Their excuse is that they wanted to simplify the interface - of the top pro version. Will they do this in MEP? Let's hope that they do not remove anything, but improve what is already there and add something.

Hi Terry,

To add to my list of possible "What's gone," Magix removed Surround mode from ACL and AML. Will they do this to MEP? Not that I ever use it, but many others do.
