I'm opening them again since a looong time.
Although my update subscription is due (and at the time had no plans on renewing it), there were updates released while my subscription was valid.
So in concrete: how can I get the most recent version that was released while my subscription was active? (and thus I'm entitled)

I think you will have to take this up with Magix but the end user licence agreement I think makes it pretty clear.

2.3 With regard to updates and features delivered within the scope of the MAGIX update guarantee, the following applies: The license for updates and features delivered within the 12 months after initial registration of the MAGIX product is limited to the installation(s) in place at the point when the 12-month period expires. If the update guarantee is extended beyond the 12-month period, this limitation does not apply.

Hi,
Just to be clear, it was not a subscription but an Update Service. With a subscription, when the period is over and you don't pay, the program doesn't work. Previously, there was no Subscription available, now there is.
With the Update Service, you got updates/new versions for a year - if you chose to get them; if you didn't, tough luck. After the 1 year expired and you didn't renew, no updates/new versions. Also, if you have not renewed and have to reinstall, you fall back to the version that was available on the date that you last paid.
Note that the Update Service has now been dropped.

What I'm not so sure about is what happens if you let the renewal dates lapse. Whether third party effects transfer from an older registration to a new registration or not.

Yes, you can upgrade but you will not get the Update Service. It is gone.
When you click on the i in your second image, just above Upgrade Now, the message indicated the Update Service and gave a link to the details. Look at the message now. No mention of Update Service.
If you purchased or upgraded to MEP2021 before 2022 came out, you would be under the Update Service 1-year period and then were able to upgrade to 2022 for free as part of the Update Service. I believe that you did this. However, if you have only recently purchased or paid to upgrade to 2022, it does not come with the Update Service. So, next year, when 2023 within 1 year from when you last paid, you will not be able to get it without paying to upgrade - again - even within the 1 year period. The Update Service is gone, dead.
So, when your current Update Service period ends, if you pay to Upgrade, you will get only 2022 - you will not get 2023 when it comes out. Wait until 2023 comes out before upgrading.
In my case, I got VPX13 just before my Update Service period expired. If I pay now or in 6 months, I will only get VPX 13 and I will have to pay again to get 14. There is no extension of the Update Service - it's dead.
I believe that we discussed this in your thread about the new subscription model. There was also info from Magix in one of the threads about the Update Service being discontinued at the end of your current Update Service period.

I misunderstood your post.
I thought you were inferring that there was only a monthly subscription on offer.
Under the monthly subscription you should get new version of the programs as and when they are available so it's sort of still available but only if you switch to the subscription service.
Of course there are downsides to that as well.
If the purpose of the changes are to offset the decline in market share it will be a short term solution as more choices in editing packages inevitably come into the market place causing a decline in sales just through the amount of competition. What I think they should be concentrating on is making the program as user friendly and bug free as possible. Word of mouth and internet scrupulous influencers have much more impact now than ever for a lot of people.
Changing usage policy just gets peoples backs up.

I was just trying to point out that there was nothing called "update subscription" just Update Service which was not a subscription. Subscription is a new thing. There is no long an Update Service.
Yes, Magix has done a wonderful job at mucking things up. The new versions of VPX, MEP and PhotoStory were disasters, not to mention calling the switch from Vegas Movie Studio to Movie Studio 18 (Movie Edit Pro) an upgrade. The release of Music Maker 2022 was also a disaster.
Unless I'm missing something here, dropping the Update Service will see a delayed negative reaction when users figure out that there will not be any periodic releases of new features and that they will not get the next version if it comes out within a year of the last payment for an upgrade. As well, those who got the upgrade from MEP2021 to MEP2022 under the Update Service will be bombarded with adverts to upgrade to, you guessed it, MEP2022. For anyone who upgrades to the same version, the only thing to be gained will be some patches. They will not get MEP2023. This is my case with VPX13; the Update Service has expired and I am not eligible for any bug patches. I will have to pay first. Then, I will have to pay again when VPX14 comes out.

I agree with you.
While Magix has said they had no plans to force anyone onto a subscription model they have made the 'Update Service' far less attractive to users. To my mind this is 'Bean counting thinking'. Not only has this model of business been found to be counter productive, only companies that have switched their business model to one of offering more innovation more quickly been more successful, they now all have CEOs with engineering backgrounds. AMD and Intel being two good examples.
Are you expecting any more patches to VPX or MEP in this release then? I know there are still things broken since the last release. The EULA has still not changed yet on the site's web pages to reflect this as far as I can see.

I expect more patches for both programs as it seems that there are still many bugs. However, we have no log of reported bugs and fixes and I've lost track, especially since I don't have the latest patch for VPX13.
BTW, when I open VPX13, I get the following Update message:
which implies that the Update Service still exists. I am under no illusion that, if I pay now and VPX14 comes out within a year, I would be able to get it under the Update Service. What I will actually get are VPX13 locked in in case I have to reinstall it and patches for VPX13; nothing more.

Hi. I've just checked my version of MEP against the patch John CB has posted.
That patch is actually much older at 19.0.1.121 whereas the latest patch is 21.0.1.92.
So John CB, you should update to that patch at least and you may be correct and not get the latest patch.

This is what I was referring to. VPX13 is at 19.xxx, MEP2022 is at 21.xxx. There is no version 21.xxx for VPX, only 19.xxx.
I can't get the latest patch shown in my image unless I pay. And, as I indicated, the image shows "Update your software now by extending the Update Service." The point was that, despite that message, the Update Service has been dropped. If I extend the Update Service, which no longer exists, I would normally expect to get VPX14 if it comes out within a year. However, since there is no more Update Service, despite the message, I am not expecting to get VPX14.

As far as I'm aware MEP 2022 came out on March 28, 2021 so seven weeks later but I only bought it because I liked the look of ProDad Hide. Otherwise I would have renewed my subscription in the August. I have never let the yearly dates lapse.
