Update tray app destroys internet speed

William-Anderson5746 wrote on 5/23/2022, 6:54 AM

No response needed, as I've already disabled the stupid updater app that you installed and made active without asking me. It is, however, the last time I'll give Magix a dime of my money. Your stupid app made everything load slower, I couldn't play online games at all because of it, and it's really annoying that I had to do actual work to find out that the "bargain" of having ProDAD included was a ruse to install some crap that no one needs.

Your spyware updater should give pause to anyone who thinks that unauthorized malware from an established company should be allowed.

MAGIX...you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I did not install anything on your computer.

I have not made any apps, so I don't see how any of my non-existent apps could have caused your computer to slow down.

I do not have any such spyware updater and I certainly did not put it on your machine.

I am not Magix.

Are you Magix? Do you work for Magix? There are words for people like you, but I'd probably be banned for using them, appropriately.

I figured I would get a reply something like that.

This is a user forum, not Magix Support; no one here works for Magix. When you use the term "you" on this forum, you are addressing the users, like me. Reread your first message. You have made a pile of unfounded accusations.

Secondly, you have complained about something without even indicating which program. We, the users, don't know what you installed. But, I have many Magix programs and none of them have caused either of my computers to slow down.

The Updater app is linked to a particular program and just checks which version you have of that program when you start the program. If there is a patch, it will tell you. Do you not want to know when a patch is available?

There is also another program called (various names at various times) Update Notifier that, amongst other uses, will give you a pop-up in the bottom right of your screen after booting up, advising you of any special deals. You can remove it or adjust it to only receive messages for Magix programs that you want to know about. This is installed with most Magix programs if you accept to have it installed during the installation process. If you don't uncheck the box during installation, it will be installed. Your choice. This is neither spyware nor malware. Nothing goes back to Magix. I have it and it has never caused me any problems.

...it's really annoying that I had to do actual work to find out that the "bargain" of having ProDAD included was a ruse to install some crap that no one needs.

Do you mean that you consider reading the information about what you are purchasing to be "actual work?"

...to install some crap that no one needs.

You mean that you don't need it. Why are you speaking on behalf of everyone else? (Rhetorical)

If you want to complain to Magix, raise a ticket.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

. . . .  There are words for people like you, but I'd probably be banned for using them, appropriately. . . .

This is a friendly forum and casting aspersions on fellow users is against the Community rules, and would, as you quite rightly say, get you banned temporarily or permanently.

Letting of steam and expressing your frustrations in the forum, while understandable, does not encourage other users who give there time freely, as do the Moderators here, to help you.

Further to @browj2's comment -

. . . . Update Notifier . . . This is installed with most Magix programs if you accept to have it installed during the installation process. If you don't uncheck the box during installation . . .

During the installation process there is an option to install additional software as shown below, is for a different program, however it is the similar for Movie Studio.

The additional software is installed by default if you do not uncheck the option, as shown above, and is more than a 'spyware updater' as it also provides the options to transfer files to from Android mobile devices via WiFi transfer, and the Cloud ie Google Drive and One Drive.

If you do not use these features then you can uninstall the app which currently is called Magix Cloud Import, previously known as Update Notifier, Magix Connect and Network Sync.
