billrobinson6, thank you for all the info now supplied!

So you can see the video preview in the record screen?  How are you controlling the playback from the camera?  I think you should be able to do this by clicking on the the transport controls directly underneath the preview screen.

Have you told MEP precisely where to store the recorded files and under what name?  (Left side of record screen, where it says "Save video file as..." and "Save in the following folder..").

Lastly (and my apologies for stating the obvious) you have clicked on the large red record button (which should also start the tape playing in the Handycam)?

I suspect this problem may well be something very simple, hence I'm starting with the simple checks!

emmrecs, thanks for your continued support, much appreciated.

You are spot -on with your suggestions and I think all is well now. It seems that until I register the Trial copy, the programme is not activated and some of th transport controls are 'greyed-out -  Including the record button.

My mistake was to think that the code number given with the download was the activation key - obvious now but not at the time!

I am still struggling with the wok flow procedure and wish I could find a simplified user guide (the on-line manual is over 320 pages !)

Apart from the above,I am very impressed with with the programme features and will probably purchase when I decide which version to go for. ( I am torn between Pro+ and Premium)

Once again, thanks for all your help .

Regards, Bill

billrobinson6, good to hear you are sorted now.  Thanks for the feedback.

Don't hesitate to post back if you meet any further problems.  MAGIX video editing software is basically very good at what it does, but it ain't always easy to find the route to acheiving what you want to do!
