VDL 2026 Patch 316 - Had to deactivate then reactivate the same PC

AAProds wrote on 1/19/2026, 1:14 AM

A heads-up: after installation of the 316 patch (fixing the NVidia driver issue), VDL told me that I was trying to install the program on too many computers and that I had to deactivate one of them. I went to my account and only two computers were listed, one of them being the computer I was updating. I deactivated VDL on the PC I was updating and immediately successfully reactivated VDL on the same machine.

I don't know if it is related, but Windows did an update at the same time.

Hi Al.

If the patch is supposed to fix the nvidia driver problem does that mean earlier versions of the program that won't receive updates can no longer use newer the nvidia drivers I wonder.

It may also explain why some of my other programs I am no longer running current versions of have recently had update 'bug' fixes with no explanation of what the fixes were.

Hi Al, Ray

. . . . trying to install the program on too many computers and that I had to deactivate one of them.

I had the same, the good thing is you do not have to shutdown the program to log in to your account, the dialog takes you straight to your account and, after logging in, the deactivation page, and back to the activation screen once deactivated.

I do not know if it is a Windows update or not, though my laptop did upgrade to Windows 25H2 about 2 weeks ago , despite being set not to, that is another story, though pleased that none of the so called 'dreaded' issues being reported all over the Internet elsewhere have occurred.

Testing with VPX 17 and the patch I am also seeing a noticeable improved export/rendering performance on the RTX 2060 (Laptop).

Nothing here (UK) so far but I am only on ms2025.

Question - Did you have the problem Nvidia drivers installed before the patch 316 was offered, or was it offered while still on the older but working drivers?

I'm just wondering if this patch 316 is only offered if required, if you get my drift.

Hi Al,

I, too, had to de/reactivate when I updated VPX, but not VDL, as I had never put VDL on my laptop. I guess that I now have 2 activations of VDL for the same computer.

The update didn't help with my current project. The photos, videos and audio that I need but didn't shoot, are still not showing up in the Media Pool Import screen.

OT: I had to look up Vortilon.

Hi Al, John and John,

Having updated both VPX and VdL, no reactivation was needed, so this problem seems to be entirely random! And I've checked my account, only one activation used for both softwares.

Hi Jeff

I have both VPX and VDL on my laptop and PC, and this is not the first time I have been asked to de-activate/reactivate by a patch, which may have been triggered by the update to Win 25H2.

I suspect that significant Windows updates may have triggered this. The licence check on startup may see a different computer based on the generated 'computer id', which in earlier products that could be activated using another computer.

@AAProds, @browj2 do you have both activation slots used, and/or recent updates/upgrades to Windows?

Hi John EB,

For VPX17, I had it installed on two computers, for VDL, only one. I was only asked to deactivate VPX17, not VDL. I checked afterwards and only one slot was taken by VDL after the update.

John, yes, one for my desktop and one for my laptop. The update on my desktop threw up the error. There was a Windows update at the same time. Will check my laptop later.

On the contrary, they reduce spanwise (outward) flow on swept wings. 😉 Not needed when there's an engine pylon hanging off the wing.
