Very Slow Export?

Morag-Cutts wrote on 12/11/2020, 9:45 AM

I am a brand new user and I have only previously used Kinemaster on my phone in the past.

I finally put together my simple video which is approx. 35 minutes (1920x1080). I just need to upload it to YouTube. That option didn't work - it just gave me an error :(

I am now trying to export it to file but it says it's over 4 hours to export?! I thought kinemaster was slow - up to 10 minutes.

So I think I've done something wrong as it seems ridiculous. Can anyone give me any pointers? I've tried to read through posts but I can't see anything that I can either understand or helps me.

I did buy this product based on some review of fast export but so far, I find it very difficult to use and I am very disappointed.

Unfortunately I can't give you my version number while it's exporting but I literally purchased a week ago (Movie Magix Pro) so it must be up to date. :)

Thank you in advance for any input - I am not technical so please don't dazzle me :)

Hi Morag, and welcome to the Movie Edit Pro (MEP for short) user to user forum.

First I will say that being able to export a file at 1080p of that length in 10 minutes is pretty fast.

Second, from the very little data on your system that I can pick up is it is a laptop and the Intel GPU (If it has one, we don't know because you haven't supplied the model number.) has been disabled as that nvidia GPU powers the laptop monitor, and that is one of the system specs you would need to have if the program were to work as advertised. See the minimum specifications page for MEP. The processor should be a seventh generation processor or newer.

Last, any effects or fades you add will need additional processing power and will, dependant on the effect used will slow down the export even more.

You would be running Movie Edit Pro 2021 but we don't know if that is the basic program (Movie Edit Pro) or the next one up Movie Edit Pro Plus, or the highest specified version, Movie Edit Pro Premium. Either way all of them should export around the same time so in this instance not that relevant.

I would say, for an average system not being able to use much in the way of hardware acceleration, that the export time seems about right. To improve on that the Intel GPU (again if it has one) would need to be enabled in the bios settings and not recommended to be done by anyone not sure of their computer skills. Even then, because you are using the program on a laptop it may still slow down exporting if the laptop processor gets too hot running for so long at full pelt. It would slow itself down to help dissipate excess heat. I would still expect such a system to do an export with some effects and a normal amount of cross fades to take around an hour to complete providing an Intel GPU was also being used.

[Edit]

Don't always go by the advertising blurb. Although this version of MEP is faster than previous versions (like for like) it is probably far from the fastest at exporting video editing package out there. What it is though is possibly one of the easiest and most flexible to get on with but is not without a few problems. I would say all video editing programs have their weaknesses and strengths. Go to any user forums to see the complaints lists.

Hi

In addition to @CubeAce comments we need to know what your computer specification is - see this topic for details of what is required.

What is the source of the video you are using in MEP eg mobile phone, screen recording, video camera or what?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly - I was gone while the video was exporting - it did take 4 hours :(
Just to clarify, I checked the settings I had used on Kinemaster (which is on my ipad) and it is exporting at 1080p so that is different I guess. I'm only uploading to YouTube so it was probably overkill.

Anyway, I have a Microsoft Surface Book - I7 8gb RAM. I couldn't find the graphics card details but that card comes with a minimum of 2gb according to Nvidia.

I roped in my hubby who is now trying to sort out my drivers as he thinks it only has the microsoft versions. After he has sorted that tomorrow, I'll let you know if it makes a difference.

As for my videos, I imported them from a camera (originally mp4) - there were 11 videos totally 11.2gb. I have cut them and speeded them up to make a 36 minute video. I also added on some photos and voice over but didn't use anything fancy because I'm so new to all of this.

@Morag-Cutts

Hi Morag.

I'm sorry but the info we need is a bit more specific. You say a Microsoft Surface book. OK,there are lots of those with different specs. You say an i7 which is good but we need to know which one. For instance my machine is running an i9900K The 'i' is for Intel, the first 9 tells me how far up the chain in ability within the family of processors it is. The second 9 tells me what generation of that family of processors it is.

I'm not sure about the double '0's indicate. It could be a licence to kill for all I know 😂. The last letter in this instance tells me whether of not it has an inbuilt graphics chip. Some chips do not have a last letter though but that in itself could tell us something useful.

I already have the full details on the nvidia card. That information you gave on that was enough thank you. I could give you the complete specs for that card here but it would probably read like gobbledygook to you and mean nothing. If you are interested or your husband is, the information can be found here.

To find more information on your Surface Pro, go to Settings ,\ System, \ About. The information will be there. We need all the information on that page but don't include the the Device ID or product ID. We don't need them and is personal to only your device.

Also please go to the Storage tab and note how large the C: drive is and any other memory space recorded there such as from an SD card or are you using an external USB drive? How much free space is on each?

Can you specify what camera? Make, model number etc. Were there any settings you remember using? The rest we can probably work out about the files from the camera.

Does the camera use an SD card and are you plugging in that card (or the camera) into the Surface Pro and loading the files directly into Movie Edit Pro from that card or camera?

Sorry if it sounds like we are asking a lot for what may seem like a simple question but there are so many variables to take into account.

I think another member here also uses a version of the Surface Pro and may also chip in at some point.
