Video monitor lags

EvilRutabaga wrote on 2/9/2017, 1:34 PM

I've been doing videos in MEP 2016 for a long time and everything was working smoothly. But one day the video monitor and the marker on a timeline started lagging so horribly, it's not possible to work at all. I don't even see the marker moving. I really just imported a picture and music, added a fade in and it can't work properly. I tried working with files I used before, but it's the same. I have a 64bit Windows 10 with 8GB RAM processor intel core i5.

Hi,

Have you tried some obvious steps without success?

  1. Reset to defaults.
  2. F9 to restore layout etc
  3. Reboot PC and restart MEP
  4. Fresh project with previously unused files
  5. Updated latest patch (I failed to do recently, as I'd expected to get an automatic prompt).

Yes, I did those things. The problem occured after I tried exporting a previous project and I had not enough space to do it. I thought maybe that would affect the efficiency of MEP, but it's the same even though I made more than enough space on the disc.

Hi,

Clean your hard drive using Ccleaner free version to remove temporairy files also Malwarebytes. If you have a standard Sata drive you can also use the defrag tool but not this with SSD drive.

Hi

. . . . Clean your hard drive using Ccleaner free version to remove temporairy files . . .

Using CCleaner is a last resort option and is not to used lightly.

. . . . a standard Sata drive you can also use the defrag tool . . .

This is not necessary with Windows 10 - this is automatically done on a weekly basis by default as shown below

@EvilRutabaga

Can you gives more information on your computer specification - include processor model number , hard drive size and free space and type, graphics card used etc.

Was there a Windows update in between MEP working and not working?

Have there been any other changes to the computer eg new software in between MEP working and not working?

I used CCleaner but it didn't help.

It's intel core i5-5200U 2.20GHz; 8GB RAM; disc SSD(flash); 25,7GB free from 121GB; graphic card NVIDIA GeForce 920M.

I didn't have any Windows updates available, and I didn't change anything, so i really have no idea why it's lagging now. All the other programs I use work normally.

I thought about reinstalling it, but I was able to do it before, cause I got a code after buying a new laptop. And it already expired.

Hi

Thanks for the specs - the only thing that may become an issue, particularly if you are editing Full HD video, is the size of the SSD drive and the amount of free space on it.

. . . . I used CCleaner but it didn't help. . . . .

I did not expect it to - using this program is really a last resort option and not likely to resolve the issue you are having.

Open Task Manager and look at the Processes tab and see if any program is using excessive cpu, memory or disc space.

Keeping Task manager open, start MEP running and load the the single image+ music project or add the image and music to the timeline, in Task Manager check the above processes again and look at the Performance tab - what does it say the disc usage is?

Do you have Norton or McAfee antivirus installed?

Even after I added the image and music, the CPU was about 10% or less and the disc 0%.

I have G Data Security.

I didn't do anything but MEP works just fine again. Thank you for your help
