Video not showing in preview

I have a Windows 10 Pro desktop with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 645 card with the latest driver. Other specs are an i7-4770, 3.4GHZ CPU and 32G RAM. In Movie Edit Pro 2021 I do not see the preview of the video of any format. I have tried these options without success:

Display options, change Video Mode to something else, like CompatibilityMode

"File > Settings > Program..." Then open the "Import/Export" tab and uncheck "Hardwareacceleration for playback if possible"

Please help quickly! Other programs like Adobe Premiere elements work fine with this configuration

Hi and welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

I think in this instance we need to know the build and version of Windows 10 you are running and the data from the text view of one of the files you cannot see inside Movie Edit Pro using the free MediaInfo tool.

I'm surprised you say your system will run Adobe Premiere elements as the system requirements for their latest offering is more stringent than for Movie Edit Pro.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

What is the format of the video you are trying to preview - a MediaInfo analysis of one of the video file would help - post the results from the Text view.

Do the videos import correctly to the timeline and are they not showing any image?

Are you getting any error messages - if so what do they say (in full please)?

In Windows, Graphics setting ensure that MEP is set to use the Power saving (Intel iGPU) graphics chipset. If the option is not available then it may be disabled in the computer BIOS and needs enabling - how you do this depends on the BIOS.

Do note if you are working with 2.7K, 4K or greater resolution and/or HEVC video, the computer is going to struggle getting a smooth Preview playback.

I am importing an HD video of .mov format. The video did import correctly to the timeline but was not visible in the preview.

Based on your recommendation, I set the Power saving setting for MEP and closed the program. I opened the program and started a whole new project in which I imported the video. It works now, thank you.

You need to have a version of QuickTime installed on the computer to work with mov. files. Either the last Windows version or the QuickTime alternative unless you are now saying it's working.

This is only necessary if the video is JPEG encoded, h.264/AVC encoded video in the MOV container file does not need Quicktime installed.

Thanks I do have the QuckTime player installed. My .MOV file is h.264 encoded. Just FYI, the Windows build version I have is  10.0.19041 Build 19041. Things are working ok for me at the moment, thanks.

Hi

I think the key to your success is that after following Johns tip the program is using the Intel GPU for "Program Settings >Display >Display in the arranger > Video mode" instead of the Nvidia.

Following this, for the sake of better performance, you could try changing the settings back that you made earlier - "Display options, change Video Mode to something else, like CompatibilityMode

"File > Settings > Program..." Then open the "Import/Export" tab and uncheck "Hardware acceleration for playback if possible"
