Video Pro X 11 Verschieben von installierten Zusatzinhalten

Ein0r wrote on 8/31/2020, 8:46 PM

Yes. As far as I'm aware the program has to be installed on the C: drive although some of the content I think can be moved.

I'm sure someone here will be able to tell you what can be moved and what can't.

The actual program files can be installed wherever the user chooses. (I have them on D:\). But you must select the option of "Custom Install" when initially installing the program.

However, all the "supporting" files, like Effects, transitions, etc., etc will still install to C:\ and this cannot, I believe, and should not be changed. So, [[MENTION:undefined]], as I understand what you are asking: No, you should not attempt to move that "additional content" to any other drive.

Google translate:

Sorry for writing in german, the page was in german and only recommended posting in english if I want a quicker response.

Thank you for your replies. This is disappointing, especially for a software that normally costs several hundred Euros. Like buying a new gas grill but you can only use all the features if you place it in the doorway between your living room and your garden/balcony.

I also switched the directory for the program files when I installed it a second time but that didn't help me much either. I'll give the program a try but I'll probably consider this a wasted purchase. At least until I have more space available.

No problem. Google translate is reasonably good now.

I personally only store programs and their additional content on my C: drive. Nothing else as often programs and content are easier to replace if the system fails. I suppose it depends how many different programs you run and I tend to stick to only a few of each type. Sometimes in the past where I have had a program on another drive it has refused to work after changing a C: drive anyway as changing C: drives can cause a new computer ID to be generated.

It is actually not true what you write.

I have relocated C:\Users to D:\Users by installation (on a system level), so my %PUBLIC% point to D:\Users\Public and not C:\Users\Public. Same then goes for %APPDATA% and %LOCALAPPDATA% also points to D:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming and D:\Users\username\AppData\Local respectively.
It is not advised to relocate any other (system) directory than Users, although it is also possible.

However, it has to be done prior to installing any common resources used by Magix programs, as if you first install any resource in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Magix, subsequent installations by Magix will be bound to install in the same place.

I will thank Magix for being consistent in using system variable paths and user configured settings (like when you install the program to a different location) as I have never had any issues related to this.

All add the link to the resource I used for relocating the Users folder

If you choosed to save the installation files for later use, these will be saved into the %USERPROFILE%\Documents\MAGIX_Downloads folder and can by moved to another disk to save space.

Hi,

During installation, you can change both the program location and the location of the templates and effects.

The only thing is that other users may not be able to access them. This is usually not a problem.

@browj2

That may not be true for templates and effects, as you can see in your own screen clip has been greyed out and disabled for change.

It may be possible for the very first Magix installation, but as you can see it default to (a subdirectory of) the %PUBLIC% location.

Relocating UserProfiles on a system level works like a charm, but are still limited to first Magix installation of T&E.

You're right, possibly because I already have it there.

I just checked to see what I recorded with MEP where I had nothing yet under C...VideoContent and I can select a subdirectory for templates and effects. So, I think that it is possible. I almost tried it yesterday; I should have.
