All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

You have still not followed @johnebaker's request about the MediaInfo data on your video files. Please help us to help you by fully answering ALL questions we ask.

I also note two pieces of data from your "specification" details:

Intel(R) Xeon(R) W-2123 CPU @ 3.60GHz

and

The processor does not include an intel GPU (I think) and that version of the program (if your numbers are correct) is very old indeed. The current latest version is 21.0.1.92. Both these factors are extremely likely to be not helping you to resolve this problem.

Fare enough. I just looked at your camera specs to see if it was a possibility.

You don't appear to have any usable GPUs. In the program Go to File /Settings / Program / Device options and make sure that the Import: Processing: and Export boxes are all set to Microsoft WARP. If that option doesn't exist are they set to CPU?

The CPU may not be capable of reproducing 4K files.

You are right, I didn't do the MediaInfo part. I didn't have time this morning and wanted to answer the easy answers first. It's coming. Regarding the software, I've purchased upgrades twice in the past 3 or 4 years and this is what I have. I even contacted customer service because, on my last purchase, I got all the "extras" and not the software. They said when I run the upgrade it will be there. This is what I got.

Hi

Thanks for the MediaInfo data - that rules out the source video - it is 4K UHD AVC encoded with AAC audio - ie Movie Edit Pro should import that with no issue.

If the Movie Edit Pro (MEP) Premium version number is 10.0.1.18 (UDP3) then this is Movie Edit Pro 16 which does not support 4K UHD video - this was introduced with MEP 2014.

It is a 4K UHD AVC-I (all Intra) video file and as the Chroma subsampling is 4:2:0 it should import with no issues, however as you say without a reasonably high spec system, as @dwgomola has, there may be some bottlenecking.

I've been a member since 2016. I said this to someone else that I've purchased upgrades (the last one I purchased was in 2020) but when I install the link I receive, I get all the "stuff" that comes with it but I don't get the software upgrade. I even contacted Customer Service about it and they said I would get it when I installed. I looked on their website to see if the latest version I own is listed anywhere. I couldn't find that. Do you know if there is a place to find that out?

Hi

Look under Help, About in the program and post a screenshot of what you see, we will be able to see which version you have - do erase/block out your serial number before posting the screenshot.

Do you need to see the entire screen? I paid for an upgrade in 202 sometime so apparently it was never installed.

@dwgomola

Hi,

You have MEP2020 at version 19.x.x.x. MEP2021 is version 20.x.x.x.

You cannot install the additional content (all the "stuff" - were there additional plugins?) without first installing the corresponding version of the program. Note that the upgrade will replace the previous version and has done so for the last few years. This was not always the case; MEP20216 was the last version that did not get replaced and I still have it.

Hi

After some digging into specifications - AVC-Intra is not supported in Movie Edit Pro.

There are 2 options:

  1. Convert the video to a supported format using a converter such as Handbrake to h.264/AVC IPB encoded format

    or

  2. upgrade to Video Pro X and pay the small fee for the AVC-Intra import codec.

If wish to continue recording AVC-Intra with the Canon R5 then option 2 may be the better option, if not for future recording, the to 4K UHD 59.94p IPB: Approx. 230 Mbps, camera video/bitrate setting should be OK with MEP, you can test this with a shortr video recording from the camera.

In Canon R5, I am set to 4K-U, 59.94 fps, ALL-I. Even 29.97 fps doesn't work properly using ALL-I. I was shooting 4K-U, 29.97, IPB and I was able to use MAGIX at one of the video settings. However, I want to work with more detail.

This is the problem - Movie Edit Pro can not use All Intra AVC. Video Pro X can but with a paid codec upgrade.

The R5 can shoot IPB InterFrame AVC but only @ 230Mbps but a better alternative might be to shoot HEVC "MOV: MP4 H.265 Canon Log on" which can record at 340Mbps, although you would still need to purchase an HEVC codec upgrade for MEP export of HEVC ( about $5).
