VPX 13, new patch, 19.0.1.106, multicam mode is NOT fixed

In the announcement thread, the first listed "fix" is for multicam mode. Unfortunately, it isn't (fixed, that is)! In my very brief testing of this I repeated an exercise I had done with an earlier build and I can see no difference.

  1. The icon to activate multicam mode is not operational in Timeline Mode, only in Scene Overview. See my screenshot, below.

    Notice video on tracks 3 and 5, as expected, with audio for first video on track 4. BUT, video on track 5 has audio and video on one track, despite me ALWAYS having Program Settings to show audio and video on separate tracks.
  2. On the same screenshot, the icon to activate Multicam is greyed out and cannot be clicked. The menu option Edit>Multicam does work.
  3. This screenshot shows how those two source videos appear on the Source screen:

    They are both SD (720 x 576) format, notice the vast difference in display size! Switching between them by clicking on the Source screen image is very much "hit and miss": sometimes the switch "happens" and the selected video appears in the Program screen; sometimes nothing seems to change; sometimes the Program screen goes blank; sometimes the program tracks (1 and 2) have nothing in them, until one stops playback, when video and audio objects may appear!
  4. I still cannot add a third video (to track 6, or anywhere else). Drag and drop or Insert, nothing happens! The file does not insert to the beginning of any track nor does it appear anywhere else on the timeline.

I have not yet attempted to verify any of the other published "fixes" but this is not a good start!

EDIT: if any other user can replicate this multicam issue on their computer, I will create a Support TIcket.

@emmrecs

Hi Jeff

Items 1, 2 - I cannot replicate - works fine.

Item 3 - confirmed with 2 video and is irrespective of resolution

Item 4 - is that not how Multi-Cam mode is supposed to work, once in this mode you cannot add any new tracks, you can only add more clips to existing occupied tracks - MEP 2021 is the same.

I have checked the other fixes- camera/zoom, section and waveform display all work. The Windows 8.1 issue I cannot test, and the darker video I have not seen - I believe this required a specific combination of hardware.

@johnebaker

Hi John.

Many thanks for checking this.

I've just tested another multicam project and yes, of course (stupid me!) you are quite right about Item 4! Not at all sure why I thought it should work differently! 😱

Items 1 and 2, as per my previous post, still have no multicam icon available. But see below for update on the audio and video on separate tracks problem

However, item 3, 3 videos, and they all appear correctly on the source screen, and can be clicked to select and the "visual change" is almost instantaneous!!! Also tested again with 2 videos, no problem!

The separate tracks for audio and video seems to have been caused by the setting in Program Settings having been "lost" - I just checked it and "Video/Audio on one track" was ticked (I think this latest patch must have changed my settings) - but even with that tick in place, one video imported to the timeline with audio and video separated, another one did not! Unticking that box and then removing and reimporting the "single-track" video, it used two tracks.

Oh the wonders, complexities and foibles of modern software and computers!
