VPX12 - No audio with captured file - MOV

With the following file, I get no audio, no second track, not just with VPX12, but MEP2021 and several older versions of both. the file was a video capture using Corel MultiCam Capture Lite which can capture more than one thing, like the screen and a webcam, with each being saved to separate files. In some of the older MEP/VPX, I get a second track for the audio but no sound. With VPX12, no second track is available. I tried Vegas 15, got the audio track but no audio.

I have Qt installed. The file opens fine in PinnacleStudio 23, which, of course, it should.

I ran it through Handbrake to get a working file.

Any ideas as to why this file doesn't work in VPX?

From the MediaInfo data there is nothing out of the ordinary - it looks like standard Quicktime JPEG encoding.

To what format ie video and audio codecs and sample rate for the audio?

Any chance of a sample file to play with?

I assume that Corel MultiCam Capture Lite can only export in the one format?

Similar to your conversion Data where you have

To normally go along with the

Format settings, GOP : M=3, N=30

or similar recorded data that is missing in both file sets.

The original is Motion JPEG encoded - there are no reference frames as each frame is an I frame (reference frame).

With QT installed both video clips Screen.mov and Source 1.mov import into VPX with sound, however Screen.mov took about 40 secs to import, screen1 was there in seconds !

I assume the audio in Screen is meant to be silent until 'Lets go' ?

Bernadette appears to be reluctant to go with you having to tell her 5 times 😀.

Odd thing when looking at the files in Windows File Explorer, screen.mov had a preview image, Source 1 none, after installing QT Source 1 preview image appeared !

BTW I like the French doors behind you.

Part 2:

Set up the tracks as they should ie stacked, resized Source 1 (620 x 349) to be in one corner and observed the following:

Preview playback caching is slow, playback is sluggish with audio out of sync with video which was skipping frames.

Exporting to MP4 h.264 same resolution and frame rate etc, with VPX set to High Performance GPU - had no HWA and took 3m 28 s.

With VPX set to use the UHD630 got HWA however took 6m 24s.

In both cases CPU never got above 17% and with the UHD 630 usage was hovering between 11 and 17 %.

Did/do you get similar results?

Looking up issues with MJPEG encoded video it would appear the QT decoder is not particularly fast which would account for the initial long load time and export times.

Thanks for checking. I'll install on my Surface Pro and try it there.

I get thumbnails for both videos.

Below is the set up. You can see VPX in the background with the videos on tracks 1 and 3. They were recorded simultaneously by MultiCam Capture Lite, so one video does not make sense without the other.

The audio in Screen is whatever is playing - computer audio. In Source, it's from the webcam or, in my case, from my microphone connected to the external sound card (M-Audio M-Track). For someone doing this type of thing, it's a great program as you have one file for each part - screen and webcam.

Any thoughts on why the audio does not show up on my desktop computer?

Ah yes, the French doors. I wonder if that will be a problem when we sell the house, as a new owner will likely want to use my office as a bedroom, it's normal use. Nathalie's office also has French doors, but more solid than mine.

I'll get back as soon as I have QT installed on the Surface Pro.

EDIT: just saw your post while I was doing the above. The files are very slow on my desktop; I thought that it might be because of the old machine.

I installed QuickTime on my Surface Pro 4, rebooted, loaded VPX and the files and still did not get the audio. Playback is sluggish, and that is being generous. CPU hit a maximum of 20% for about a second.

You must have something that I do not.

Given the difficulties with playback (and the audio), it would be best to run the files through Handbrake for use with VPX/MEP, or use the other program.

Like John EB it took ages for Windows to show the second file in Explorer.

Both files displayed correctly within VPX but no audio. This was not done by importing the files into the project.

Both files played correctly in Film & TV.
