What alternatives to Sound Forge exist?

SF in Audio Studio version is a very convenient and functional editing and mastering program. With useful tools, good and accurate visualization. But it does not always work correctly with VST-plugins.
Audacity is even worse for working with plugins, it’s not a professional level program.
Adobe Audition is subscription-only.
Steinberg Wavelab is more expensive, and its lighter version does not work with external plugs.
What else is a significant audio editor?
NCH Wavepad? Acon Digital Acoustica?

Which audio editor has the same functionality as Sound Forge Audio Studio? If you need a multipurpose two-way app for quick, convenient and efficient work? Or do we have to spend a lot of time fully testing the alternatives - and then give them up?

Alternatives to Sound Forge were recently discussed in this recent topic:

My alternate is to use an earlier version of Sound Forge that works with the specific plug-in format I need to use. I do not have the time or desire to learn a new audio editing app unless I absolutely positively need to.
