Bought premium upgrade. What program do I need to buy that the upgrade can work with. Thought I had a version this would work with but I guess not! Thanks!
The exe. file should start the download of the program. It is not the program.
You should have had an email with your order number, serial number, and then and email address with the dlm,exe file. You download the program from that link.
Just to add to what @CubeAce has written: an .exe file is an "executable", i.e. it executes to install the program. In this particular case, as Ray says, it is almost certainly a "Download Manager" which will first download and save to a temporary location on your computer all the files needed for the upgrade and then automatically install them.
For a full installation the full download process is
Download the Download Manager file from the link in the email, if it does not auto-run , double click the downloaded file to run it - it will be in the Downloads folder
The Download Manager will download and install the program - if you do not want any extras offered uncheck them if listed.
Start the program and activate/register it with the serial number provided in the email.
You should now be prompted to download and install the second part of the program check every item in the download manager for this part, which contains all the extra features, functions templates effects etc - this may take a long while to download.
After downloading all the extras the installation will start - you may have to acknowledge/allow some parts to be installed.
If the prompt to download the extra parts does not appear - use the Help, Install extra content to start the download manager.
I would also suggest clicking yes to the prompt to keep the extras in the download folder after install is complete you can archive these to disc for future use.
How can I post photos of the screens I get here? My studio computers are NOT online. Magix tells me the product is activated. Gives me a serial number..then when I try to activate it tells me the number is wrong.
I just had a second thought. If this is an upgrade but you have the previous version running on your other two machines, first you will have to deregister one of the other machines online using the machine it's installed on before it will install onto a third machine as the licence is only valid for two machines at a time.
. . . . you have the previous version running on your other two machines, first you will have to deregister one of the other machines online using the machine it's installed on before it will install onto a third machine . . .
Not quite - the number of installations is not dependant on the number of activation slots (2 for a single licence).
By analogy, you can own several cars but you can only drive one at a time, similarly for activations, you can only have 2 active computers at a time even though you can install the software on any number of computers, to use a third installation one of the 2 activated PC's must be deactivated before the third can be activated..
An option if you need more computers active is to buy additional licences (activation slots) - if the program is being in a commercial/business setting you may want to contact Magix Sales about commercial/business licencing.
Once 2 PC's are activated and taken offline they will continue to work, however IIRC you get persistent nags after a month to go back online and some where I read that a monthly check is required.
As far as 3rd PC activation is concerned once the 2 activated PC's are off line and a 3rd one needs to be activated one of the 2 activated PCs must go online to enable de-activation before the 3rd can be activated.
What happens if one or more licence checks missed I do not know.
Unlike a competitors product which works on a 'subscription' ie 'pay to use' model and stops working when you stop subscribing, once you have bought a Magix product there is no expiry of the licence.
The Update Service is a separate service, which, if you subscribe to annually, covers upgrading to the latest version of the product at a discounted price.
My laptop is online. I get to the registration page and it keeps telling me the serial # is wrong.
I'm making assumptions here but is MEP, upgraded or otherwise, installed on that laptop? You mention your studio computers are never online and that they are the machines on which MEP is installed. If the laptop also has an MEP installation, as previously advised, you need to deactivate the app on at least one of your studio machines in order to be able to activate it on your laptop.
OTOH, if the laptop does NOT have an installation of MEP, could that be the reason you are receiving the error message?
The program is not registered on ANY machine. My home laptop goes online...and that’s where I’m told the serial # is wrong. Is there a way to post pictures here?
If you mean the upgrade you bought is not registered I'm afraid you are wrong.
An upgrade is more like altering the program rather than a new install of the program. It is a newer version of the program you already own. It will not work until the original program you have running is de-registered online or those two machines are connected online to update them via your individual software registration code. It can not be done any other way. It is a part of Magix's copyright protection against piracy of its software.
Even if it is bought as a program and not an upgrade, the machine you put it onto has to be online to complete the install process or activation. It states that on the specifications page.
